Recording/mixing finished. Burning and encoding now. Gonna be close.

EDIT: Emailed at 9:03pm. Now to listen to it and see what exactly I sent in.

EDIT (AGAIN): Lyrics --

No Swimming

An unknown town
And you broke down
There's no phone around
And no one to call

You're by the water so
That's where you're gonna go
You must not know
This place at all

Can't you read the sign
There's no swimming here
You must be out of your mind
To go swimming here

You cross the black street
To try to beat the heat
But you should beat feet
Before it's too late

I know you can't see
No calamity
But here in Amity
It just isn't safe

I'm encoding and emailing right now!

EDIT: Lord Of Oats... I am emailing it right now!
EDIT 2: Okay.. here are the words. Enjoy!
EDIT 3: All done uploading!

EDIT 4:
Liner Notes: This is the first song I've ever used backwards recordings on. There really is something backwards about it. <yoink> It was a LOT of fun! I did sing a little "backwards" as well as sang then recording a little backwards, but I also did a lot of guitar backwards. Awesome!
The central take (guy'n'guitar) was the only take. I spent the other 40 minutes adding crazy shit to it. Great optional challenge!

Capo at 4th (I think)
whole song is D-C-G-D, except solo which is D-G-C-D How awesome is that? me + horn = toot!

CHORUS
Gni mmiws on is no swimming
Gni mmiws on is no swimming
Gni mmiws on is no swimming
backwards...

VERSE 1
but I bet...
it could not and will not
be the same forwards
Gni mmiws on

backwards..
just like an ocean rip tide
like rollin' with it... all night

oh it's forward again...
I'm getting back to the coast
and I'm feelin' fine

VERSE 2
my knee moves on...
and it carries my leg forward..
and it's thrustin' me onwards

and it's too much for me; I can not handle
all the pressure the ground puts on me
and I just want to take a swim but
Gni mmiws on

Alright, Jim. I've got yours, and I've finished mine. If anybody else did this, let me know. Otherwise, I'm going to start uploading the files and open voting.

What do you think for a voting period? Ten Days?

Yes, I've got the Wages song as well. If that's it, I'm closing the door.

I'm just going to keep it contained in this thread. So the top of this page will look different in about five minutes.

I never considered that optional challenge for a second. Beyond my capacity, given my current setup. Can't wait to hear how you handled it!

No Swimming
by Lord of Oats

No swimming beyond the reef, unless you want to be eaten by a shark
No swimming, there's no one around, and can't you see that it's quite dark?

No swimming in retention ponds at the Sports Complex
The gators have eaten people before, and if you go in, you could be next

Ooohaaaahaooouu?
(repeat?)
It's for your own good
It's for your own good

No swimming in my pool; what are you doing here?
I thought that restraining order said that you weren't allowed to come near

It's for your own good
It's for your own good

Wages - Where the Hell is my lighter? I should be holding it up during this. All I got is an aim 'n flame from the barbecue set. Gave up smoking years ago. Oh well. This is cracking me up, man. Very cool backwards guitar, too. Pearl Jam should cover this.

Lord Of Oats - Is that a ukelele? What is that? It's pretty neat. Love the 'sports complex' stanzas. Clever. As usual, these entries are as good as many regular song fight submissions. Very tasteful bass work on this one, too.

I'll vote after I listen a few more times. :)

I feel bad about reviewing these because I haven't done the ones from "Baby Be Quiet" OR the "Don't Lie to Me" Frenzy yet, but there were only two songs I had to listen to, so it made it easier. I WILL review the other songs. promise. :)

Jim Tyrrell
Solid lyrics that fit the title well. Starts out with a cool groove. I like the delivery of the last line of the chorus.. the way you say "here". Its just beyond me how someone can get a full band recorded in 55 minutes. Cool to end with "you have to be out of your mind".
Frenzy Grading Scale: 9/10 Great sound quality/production; solid lyrics.
Normal Grading Scale: 6/10 Should push the envelope a little more. The odd drum deal just before the solo is slightly distracting.

Lord of Oats
I like the feel of the drums and the way you played the rhythm guitar.. reminds me of "Peace Rules" era John Lennon. Oddly...the drums also remind me a bit of NIN "Closer". Nice change in the middle... the rhythm build-up and straight into the cool solo.
Frenzy Grading Scale: 9/10 Kudos for great lead guitar work. Nice groove; sounds on par with or even better than your regular entries.
Normal Grading Scale: 7/10 The only thing that could make it better is if more of your notes were right on. Then, maybe a 9 or 10.

Wages
That's me! You can read the liner notes above. And, um, I can't really review my own work. But I liked it, and it was 55 minutes of pure, adulterated fun!

By the way, my normal rating scale is greatly based on the question "will I listen to it more?" with a scale that somewhat resembles this (though, in general, SF songs aren't held to the same standard as random stuff I d/l):
10 Unbelievably great song that I probably consider a classic.
9 Will seek the song out.
8 Will definitely listen again, and may even seek the song out.
7 Will listen again, but probably not often.
6 Might keep the song to listen again
5 As average as it gets
4 ?
3 ?
2 ?
1 No redeeming quality whatsoever

Wow. Wages, this is the best solo thing I can remember hearing you do. Awesome man. The backwards guitar is really cool.

Jim Tyrrell: Good mix, great job for the time, but the hook doesn't grab me. I prefer your quiet more acoustic stuff.

Lord of Oats: Not bad, good instrumentation. The lyrics had a lot of potential, but the short verses didn't let you develop them into something cool.

Vote: Wages.
