Heard about songfight on a cdbaby podcast featuring Jonathan Coulton. I'm game to give it a try. I've been posting a new song every week on my blog Wednesday's Song. Up to 10 songs already.

The 501 title looks like it expired yesterday, so I'll just see what's next. You guys are supposed to not pull punches we'll just see how cold the water is. I've been checking out the other mp3's....

I don't know who told you that we don't pull punches here, but when I find him, I'm gonna punch him! :P

Welcome to SF. Your music sounds good. You kind of sound a bit like one of our veteran SFers here, named Ross Durand. You should check out his stuff, I think you might enjoy it.

Welcome!

I mentioned it to him last year but I'm sure he's known about it before that. The whole song a week crowd hangs close. Though I guess TMBGs was too early for their own good.

What are the TMBGs? btw The song a week thing is new to me, but it always seemed like I should do a song a week. Any other song a week sites or people out there?

Oh, you sound like you know what you're doing. Shit.

Your songs, though enjoyable, and "good," in a vague, semi-objective sense, have some weird, disconnected quality to them. One of the things that seems to contribute is your audio engineering. The vocals don't feel like they blend with the instruments at all. I believe protocol is to turn them down and add some reverb. But getting the right blend is tricky. I still need a lot of practice in this area, myself, so don't get any ideas and go picking on my stuff. I seem to be getting the impression as well that the music doesn't always connect very well to the lyrics. In a lot of different senses, it sounds like you've got all the right tools, but the execution is a little bit off. To be more brief and general, you seem to convey an underestimation of the importance of mindfulness in a given process. But I'm not trying to be as negative as I probably sound. I haven't listened to a ton of your stuff, or very many times, and obviously, there are compromises when you write at such a pace. You'll probably hear much worse things from people once you submit a song here. But there's a lot you're doing right. I'm a little scared of your entries, already.

They Might Be Giants

A lot of people get compared to them around here.

Aha. the quirk factor (they might be giants). I've heard a bunch of that quirky stuff poking around the site. I get farther and farther away from that as I get older because my chances of appearing cute get less and less.
