Konichiwa Songfighters,
Niveous here and it's another crazy day in the Niviverse. I came into work late because of that whole crazy energy drop thing I was complaining about yesterday. Like I have said many a time before, having depression sucks. Oh well, I'm surviving and trying to get this day going.
Today's QotD is inspired by a conversation I had recently with one half of the band Elysian Ring (She says "Hi Spud"). For the newer set, Elysian Ring is a band from Songfight circa 2002 and they won "On My Block" fight. They had 5 songs that year before leaving the SF landscape.
QotD:
Is there a Songfight band that hasn't entered in a while or has entered very sporadically, that you would like to see do a comeback run?
For instance I would love to get 5 weeks of new Redcar stuff or a good run of new Octothorpe.

Prayformojo is the first to come to mind, but many of the "Giants" of Songfight have never been very prolific. Frankie Big Face is a name I don't see nearly enough in the lineup, and same with ADD. What about Raised by Wolves? Not to mention some favorites that have disbanded, like sonofsupercar or Duboce Triangle (Ah, Mo is still dreeeeeeeamy, isn't he?). Oh, and Doctor Worm. Let's not forget Doctor Worm. And Brother Machine! They were pretty amazing, four songs out of five.
So I guess a lot of them. But my knee-jerk reaction was prayformojo.

one of the reasons i initially came here was for hostess mostess music. that's pretty much nonexistant now. i also really liked chack and signboy, really grew to like d.o.o.r.i.t.e and really liked to dislike luke henley. also hamnoburger and embers of autumn seemed like they were going to be around longer than they were. a lot of people just drop in, provide a few good tunes, and then disappear.

Well isn't that sweet. We have a baby due in April, and maybe a new house, and tenure clocks ticking away. Plus, the 3- and 4-year old are excellent dancers, but can't yet carry a tune to our standards. Now that Beauty and the Geek is over, maybe we can find a spare hour to satisfy your gnawing hunger for Shiny New Hostess Mostess. We aim to please.
We are considering compiling an album of SongFight! entries that almost made it but never saw the light of day. Working title: "Overages." Going back to "Goodbye Monster" (or, if you're a really old timer, I still remember my hook for "Top Drawer"), I've got at least 10 good songs that weren't finished in time.
Personally, I miss Dylan Nau.

I'd like to see some legends of yore grace us with their greatness. Recent ADD and now Octothorpe is great and the times that Frankie and JB have submitted since I've been here are rare treats and lessons. Serve it up. Lack of WreckdoM is making me itch a little, too.

Paco just said all of the guys I've enjoyed from the archives. I would add Brad Sucks and that band that has that song called "rain rat". Drawing a blank. There are more, but I'd have to go look up their names.

I'd love to hear more Brother Machine around here. He started around the same time I did (actually I think his first fight was my first fight, haha) and consistently did great songs even when he entered twice under different names. Also, people like c.layne and Brad Sucks, although we can hear them doing non-SF music these days.

Are the songs all recorded, or are they just written, but never recorded? Because I've been meaning to do the same thing. I've got about 10 unrecorded songs, but they only go as far back as "I Think It's Killing Me".

Someday I will get around to finishing the plus+5 project. Part of plus+5 was supposed to be recording a bunch of songs that I wrote but never recorded. I guess now it's more like plus+6 for a lot of them.

Mostly never recorded.
I have to set up my "studio" in the living room every time I want to record. So, if I bothered to start recording something and then gave up, it was because I really hated how it sounded.
But I've got songs I didn't start recording because of unfinished lyrics or bridges, or simply because real life didn't leave me alone long enough. I like to do all my recording in one night so I'm not setting up and taking down too much.
That said, I do have a killer "A Woman on Paper" that is a couple guitar tracks, a complete lead vocal, some cool backup vocals, and some hand percussion. I think I recorded that far, and then realized the deadline had already passed.

Mine were mostly never recorded. How about you? It would be fun to hear if our non-submissions are consistantly different in some way than our submissions. Does SongFight! influence our sound?

The ones that haunt me are songs I didn't even start recording because of unfinished lyrics or bridges, or simply because real life didn't leave me alone long enough. I like to do all my recording in one night so I'm not setting up and taking down too much.

Ah, that's in my top five favourite SF songs of all time. Didn't particularly like anything else by them, but that totally rocks the camp!
I would like to hear More Danyer.
Lost causes: sonofsupercar reform and enter 12 songs in a row.
More: Starfinger, Spy vs Pie, Level Nivelo (when he's not doing one-take recording), Jack Shite, and frankly, Niveous. When you getting back behind a microphone, girlfriend?

Careful what you wish for. Although TPF only entered one SF fight, and that was by accident. I would recommend keeping an eye on the AAD thread over the next couple of weeks ...

Yeah, about 1/2 of mine were written in time but I just didn't feel like recording. The other half are missing a bridge or a final verse or something, and yeah, those are the ones that get under my skin. Mostly because I almost forget about them, and then when I remember them, it's like "Crap, that's a good song, why the hell don't I finish it?". I don't think I started recording anything for any of them, except for maybe "Merry Christmas".
Let me know <strike>if</strike> when you start recording, it might be the kick in the pants I need to do the same.
