history channel "life after people"

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

I tivo'd it and finally watched it. It was pretty cool. But all based on educated theory, obviously. Some of it seemed a bit off to me, but I'm no expert. It was still fun and interesting to watch.

I really like the History Channel and try to record all of the specials about Earth, space and nature. Not so into the military and political stuff, but find myself watching it anyway, quite often.

can't believe no one replied... poor BLT... anyhow I've seen most of this show... (I think I missed the beginning of it...) pretty neat... I liked the Skyscrapers how they turn into multi level jungles... ;) I also really like the History/Discovery type channels and it's really the only thing I ever watch on TV, except for hockey... go Pens! ;)

I never saw this post until you resurrected it.

I saw this a while back. It was interesting enough to get me to watch it to the end... but I thought it was pretty speculative. I mean, I know it has to be but I think the theory is leaving out a huge amount of possible variables such as climate change, platonic drift, and other possible alteration of animal habitation based on evolution.

I too am no expert but the show seemed a little OUT THERE at times. That and what does this possible future have to do with HISTORY... I noticed that the history channel isn't necessarily about history these days. It's been leaning towards Discovery.

Sounds like an interesting show. I'll have to see about finding a copy of it to watch.

"Platonic" has nothing to do with sex (or lack thereof) - it actually refers to the abstract mathematical/philosophical ideal. It's unfortunate that people only know of the word it in terms of "platonic relationship" (which of course just refers to a relationship which is about, well, the relationship itself).

Even with all that, it still has nothing to do with the tectonic plates.

Leave it to me to accidentally derail a thread with a stupid mistake of a word replacing "tectonic."

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/platonic

Main Entry:
pla·ton·ic Listen to the pronunciation of platonic
Pronunciation:
\plə-ˈtä-nik, plā-\
Function:
adjective
Etymology:
Latin platonicus, from Greek platōnikos, from Platōn Plato
Date:
1533

1capitalized : of, relating to, or characteristic of Plato or Platonism
2 a: relating to or based on platonic love; also : experiencing or professing platonic love b: of, relating to, or being a relationship marked by the absence of romance or sex
3: nominal, theoretical
— pla·ton·i·cal·ly Listen to the pronunciation of platonically \-ni-k(ə-)lē\ adverb
Note #3, which in this case was the original meaning of the term. I don't deny that in the context of "platonic love" it has taken over but the origin still comes from #3. It's kind of like the word "molest" which used to just mean annoy/bother/trouble.

No,that's good. The more posts I get in my thread, the more theoretical Internet money I make.
Beside, I knew you just ran plate tectonics together. I'm married to a Southern girl, so I speak fluent tard. :P

Wouldn't it then be about the relationship between the plates?
