just saw it. really dark and bizarre. jim carrey was great, as was the baby actor surprisingly. the pointless cameo by dustin hoffman was a nice touch too. ;-) anyhow, i don't really feel like polling this one.

Oh damn those spoilers. Now it's ruined for me.

On another filmic topic: I saw 'The Grinch' for the first time last night, and even though I generally hate anything with Jim Carey in I was pleasently suprised. Good movie.

I have anagrammed Dustin Hoffman, and broken the code. This movie is apparently populated with DOMINANT HUFFS.

In semi-related news, my co-worker Mike saw this movie and warned me against it, saying he fell asleep. I didn't care for Carrey's treatment of The Grinch or The Cat In The Hat, so I'm inclined to go along with Mike's advice.

I saw this, and I liked it well enough. The casting was really well done, the kids weren't all hammy overactors, the scenery was fantastical and beautiful. It felt just a taaaaaaad bit rushed, like as soon as it transitions from one chunk to the next, I realize how quick the last chunk was. Clearly not enough material here to support more than one movie, but I think that perhaps like a three or four (probably 3) hour miniseries would have suited this material a bit better.

my sister, who has been reading the books with her kids, tells me that the first movie is based on the first 3 books of the series. perhaps they should have used 2 books for a feature film, then?

No, the story is fine as it is, I think cutting out 1/3 of the plot would not serve the story at all. It just needs more room to breathe.

Blame Brian Grazer: Note, he's also currently adapting* Curious George, Dick and Jane, The Da Vinci Code, and (is nothing sacred?!!) East of Eden. Likely the last two won't star self-aggrandizing clowns out to steal the show and trample the script**. But you never know---whatever moves product!

"Treatment" is so polite. Put enough makeup and computer-graphics image alterations on the comedian-turned-actor, and it hardly matters which one it is.

I thought Jim Carrey was a tad hammy but I didn't care. The only really good performances I think were him, the scottish guy who played the reptile uncle dude, and the guy who was the banker did a good job. Girl kid was decent, boy kid was terrible, is that the guy from the disney channel lizzy maguire show? I hate all things disney channel, with a vengeance. Or a passion. I can't settle on one or the other.

Yeah. I didn't like it much at all. Some of the visuals were good though.

They got Tim Burton's pet production designer. So yeah, it all looked cool.

i enjoyed it.
one may wonder, but i am immensely uncritical of movies. :)
i hear they changed a lot from the 3 books, though.
i am planning to read them before too long.
