I am not thinking about getting a Vespa. I was considering it when I lived in Seattle (where such a thing would be useful) but it's just too limited in usefulness in San Francisco (since you can't take one on 80, 280, or 101).

Since when can't you take a Vespa on Coast Highway?
But they are great for buzzing around town.

Since they were classified as a motorized bicycle and not a motorcycle. Plus, they don't go nearly fast enough (this is related).
Well, there are freeway-legal motor scooters but that's still getting into motorcycle territory. And anyway, it's scary enough trying to drive in a car here.

150cc is the legal cutoff between a scooter and a motorcycle. However, at 150cc you also need to get a motorcycle license and then it also goes through all the rigamarole of a motorcycle (registration/insurance/etc.) and the fuel efficiency goes down to where a motorcycle is anyway, PLUS there's still no cargo capacity so it's still useless for, say, getting stuff to a gig.

Speaking of Vespas. Some guy on another site I frequent, posted a video that was picked up by a traffic cam, of a guy on a vespa getting run over by an 18 wheeler. I was going to post a link here, but I felt so horrible for a couple days after seeing it, because it is SO graphic, that I didn't want to put you guys through the same thing. But if you're into seeing that kind of thing, google it, I'll be no part of it.

Vespa around town, but you want some more steel around you elsewhere. I rode a beautiful 650 Beemer until a brush with someone out of my control. There are no fender benders, and fortunately I narrowly avoided one. That doesn't make sense, I know. Anyway, stopped riding the next day. Happy to be alive.
OK, more about me (sorry, no cool icons):
I dream about having microscopes inside and telescopes on the roof. Seeing stuff is believing.
I miss having a 250 gallon fish tank. I miss having cats. My family raised a bull when I was like 8. We had there horses at one time. And three cats and a dog. I don't miss the bull. Or horses.
My high school sweetheart (we dated almost 8 months. That was 30 years ago) remains one of my closest friends.
Why aren't I recording right now? There's a bunch of stuff on the verge of being done. Yeah, Feb!
