I might actually do one of these. I have 5 FAWM songs left to do so might as well go for a twofer.

My week is super stressful, but I'm going to try and get something together for Ark of Philidelphia.

What does that even mean, "Ark of Philadelphia"? Is it a regional thing I'd have to live in the area to know about?

I'm almost certain it's a completely made-up reference to absolutely nothing. Google will give you exactly one hit if you use quotes.
"Live Forever at the Barbary is a kid with a bright future. At first I thought, “This whole face-painting thing, it could never work because I have nice sheets.” But the quarter of the crowd who gave in were convincingly precious. The photo-proof was not exhausting to look at. It was the Noah’s Ark of Philadelphia. We could have cut the entire building off from the rest of the world and had enough skills on board to start a new planet where everyone could dance and give great head. There’s the key to longevity."

I googled - and apparently 'Philadelphia' is a town or something in one of those countries where foreigners live. I think they make cheese there.

Well, I yahoo'd, and the "Ark of Philadelphia" is one of several "Ark" styled funhouse places built in the 1930s or thereabouts... the one in Philadelphia is the only one still standing or something like that. One of the innovations used in the Arks was the "fan in the floor" as used in the famous Marilyn Monroe photo.
Not that your song has to be about that, and it's quite possible that Deep Throat had something else entirely in mind when choosing the title. But there has been a recent thread in the forum about things to do in and around Lancaster PA...
Actually, though, the "Ark of Philadelphia" was a short-lived disco group of the 1970s; similar in some ways to the Village People, but dressed in animal costumes. They only released one cassette tape, in 1977, and it's possible that DT has one of the few copies in existence, because many of their song titles have since shown up as SF titles!
The Panda was eventually outed as white and forced to leave the group. This may have spelled disaster for them, since he was actually the only one in the group with any sense of rhythm...

That, folks, is how you win a fight before the songs even go up. Well done sir!

More titles like this. People googling titles and then writing filk songs has been done enough around here.

Verrry interestink. While most of the titles pre-date my arrival here, I've done cover/hack jobs of 5 of those songs, and recognize several of the remaining titles. Which ones haven't been used, and should we start writing them now?
What's filk?
EDIT - OK, I looked. I was guessing something like a certain song in the
Tomato fight. (Looking at you, Oatsy!) Part of the online definition read: there is no consensus definition of filk. Thanks Erik.

The titles are actually ALL songfight titles from the music archive. "Many of" sounded a little more mysterious, and I was trying to blur the line between reality and what you read on the internet...
FWIW, I will also say that I find that Yahoo searches usually return a lot more and better information than Google searches... if you couldn't find anything on Google about "filk," try Yahoo...

Well, I got an idea for the music, good melody, and some lyrics for one of them... now lets see if I can pull it off in time.

I think I'm doing At the Arcade, but here's an option challenge for the Philadephia one: make it be about Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Wow I just wrote and sent in my Arcade entry. It's a bit Postal Service, or at least I like to think so. Check it out on
fawm if you're impatient.

I'm tempted to do a really geeky "At the Arcade", but I'm not sure if another joke song is worth my time.

Apropos to nothing much, is Penny Arcade still popular? I hope not.
