RIP Jeff Healey.
QotD: What was your favorite 80's power ballad?

I'm not breaking any new ground here:
Red Rain / Don't Give Up / In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel

That's too bad about Jeff Healey. He was pretty young.
Roll Call: Working, and then band practice. No shows until Thursday, but it's gonna get busy around St. Patrick's, so I'm resting up while I can.
QotD:
Right here.

I believe today’s question, is going to give people a migraine headache, as they 80s were practically a HUGE POWER BALLAD!

QotD: I think this counts: "Foolish Heart" by Steve Perry. It came on the radio late one night somewhere between Chattanooga and Oak Ridge TN, as I was driving back to the hotel (business trip) after visiting some friends, and it was just the right song at the right moment...
DRC: dentist appointment this morning; no major repairs necessary, but they did take my blood pressure and suggest that I need to go see my doctor and get back on the BP medicine... afternoon, over at my mom's and then taking HER to a doctor's appointment. Evening: Two-hour season finale of the Sarah Connor Chronicles. All I'm sayin' is they better not kill off Cameron...

Heya, btw... I'll be in the Phoenix area for Memorial Day weekend. I have a very good friend who is now living in Gilbert. I'm not necessarily talking about an intrusive day or anything...but maybe lunch? Just throwin' that out there.

hmm, that's a shame about Jeff Healey. The same cancer that took his eyes, finally takes his life. R.I.P.
QOTD: My life revolved around punk in the 80's with very vague memories of power ballads. Yeah, I've heard them all, but can't remember any inparticular that I care about.
So with todays news of the passing of Jeff Healey, I'll go with the first song that I ever heard by him that prompted me to buy his CD.
The Jeff Healey Band - Angel Eyes
Looking like a wuss warning: Damn I just got all emotional watching this vid.

I wasn't a Jeff Healey fan, but that's sad.
QOTD - I'm not a big power ballad fan, and probably favor ones from the 70's more, but I never hated Still Loving You by Scorpions. Klaus Meine is one of my favorite rock screamers, though, so I cut him a little slack.

I'm not sure what an 80s power ballad is, but I'll take a whack at it. Tell me if I'm just confused -
Phil Collins - I wish it would rain down

I know we have a few Christian music fans around here... Larry Norman, who many credited with being the first Christian rocker, passed away on Feb. 24th. He had been in bad health for many years and it finally did him in. Details at larrynorman.com.
Chris, I pm'd you about a memorial day get together.

Ha, that was my first thought. Not that song in particular, but cheap trick. But I wasn't sure about the 80's power ballad thing. I also liked Queensryche

You're confused. A 'power ballad' was when a rock/metal band did a sappy, usually acoustic song (or starting acoustic and building up into poofy-haired, posing, rawk and roll glory)
The whole genre was rather nauseating. A good example- Poison's Every Rose (Has its Thorn). Don't look this song up if you've never heard it, some things are better left unheard. You *will* vomit, I guarantee it.

I was obviously confused, too, so I respectfully remove myself from this conversation. Generally a good idea these days anyway.

Wow, Jeff Healy - 41. Wow.
I recall seeing him on "Night Music" hosted by David Sanborn back in the late 80s or early 90s and being blown away. The way he could bend a string by yanking on it like that was unreal. Amazingly expressive.
Wow.

Power Ballad? No, not that I can recall.
Anyway, the local NPR station never called me back about following up on the Mr. Potato Head collection, so I though I might as well post the original call-in session:

Well its a good thing that the song does not qualify as a power ballad. Its simply an acoustic ballad. Geez, get your 80's power ballad history into check mister.

My GOD! That is fucking awesome! A good example of what Ross just said with the string bending. Watching how he uses his thumb is wild.
