How do I rip a part of a DVD to play on my computer?

Hey Folks,

My band is putting together video footage to project as we perform. I'm not sure how to rip a chapter from a DVD so that we can play it from a mac laptop. Anyone savvy at this? Hoblit?

I couldn't figure this out, so I went to Pirate Bay and downloaded the movie. Worked like a charm.

edit: I think I misunderstood your question. Are you talking about anti copy codes, or just how to grab a chapter?

When I was making my "how much will you give me" video, I needed footage from my Death Proof DVD. I couldn't get it to open to my video making program. So I D/Ld a copy from the net and it worked great.

The DVD ripping software I have has chapter checkmarks so I can just rip particular chapters...

give me a minute to find that software for you

You might want to try Handbrake:

http://handbrake.fr/

It rips DVDs to MP4s, which should be usable in a video editing program.

Tried Handbrake, but it didn't seem to work. It kept giving me an error and making a "stacked dump"??!!?!

Basically, I want to put a DVD in my computer and then pull the video off to play on my computer. I only need certain pieces though, not the whole movie.

Oops, sorry. I thought you were ripping the DVDs on a Mac, too, since you mentioned playing them on a Mac in your original post. I know Handbrake works on the Mac (assuming you've got OS X 10.5), as I've used it on mine. I've never tried the Windows version, so I have no idea why it's not working for you. If it did work, though, it would also allow you to rip specific chapters. Perhaps the Mac owner in your band can be the DVD ripper, too?

I know that is the DVD ripper I use although my crack is for an older version and will not work on this one.

I can't find a crack for that version... and the one for 1.17 version doesn't work.

Later when I get home I"ll try to find my original install files...no guarantees though.

What Would Jebus Say?

PS: I always used DVDShrink, myself, but haven't bought/rented a DVD an ages. I just bittorrent the movie these days.

As I recall, you had some premium info for Mr. Ray on the subject of swimming pools. We all have our niche. Ken just happened to remember that I used to do a lot of multimedia work.

No, its cool...I asked him. He said go ahead and that I'll just have to ask for forgiveness. Jesus wrote a blank check you know. You just have to cash it in time. <strike>Although he recommend that I keep from raping 6 year olds or murdering those young juicy college girls.</strike>

mmmmmMMMMmmmm, young juicy col....
