I figure I'll post here, since
Tyrian purple and less than crisp vocals do not a perspicuous story make.
Here I am
at the gates of Constantine
Dance, dog, dance
I believe I can read your mind.
I could floor the passing general
'cause I once made hay.
Hush the palace priests
with what little I pray.
Dazzle the gold-clad ladies
with skin of gleaming clay.
So where's the rub?
why this song:
I do not speak their posh purple tongue.
I do not speak their purple tongue.
I conquered a milkmaid
who kissed me past
those dumb and dreaded
palace guards,
And once in the front court
a falconer saw
my piercing eye
and brought me to
the imperial mews
where a courtesan smiled
"Hullo, rough gem,
come dine in style!"
But at the feast
I saw their true face:
they grinned, giggled, chortled, they laughed...
as I mispronounced -
Boy, was I shown my place!
So here I am
at the gates of Constantine
Oh, good dog -
May their Tyrian tongues fall off
and rot!

Purple Tongue

It's a lovely California day
Let's both skip work and get away
We owe it to ourselves
To take some time to play
Put the top on the Mustang down
And make a beeline out of town
Soak up some rays along the way
To where we're bound
So we head north on the 80
Across Al Zampa bridge
Cruise on through Vallejo
On our impromptu trip
And once we get to Napa
And fields filled with vines
You say, I just had a thought
Let's make a stop and taste some wines
So we turn in at a chateau
And have a taste of some merlot
A Napa gamay
And selection of bordeaux
And down the road not very far
We find a tasty pinot noir
Robust barbera
And a fine petite sirah
As we sample every vintner
And the wines they make so well
We try every chianti
Each grenache and zinfandel
And as the day wears on
Even though we might pretend
We know that every good thing
Must come to an end
And so we finally turn for home
Having quenched our thirst to roam
And we marvel
At how fast the time has flown
And though the night may still be young
Already got a purple tongue
As a memento
Of a lovely California day

My black and purple tongue ran ahead
And with a profession of love
It came it to an edge and jumped
Compared to the other girls I knew things were good between the two of us
I thought that it might be love, so my tongue said it was
I was already flying through air when I realized it wasn't true
I wasn't going to land, I was going to fall and get bruised
I felt bad that it wasn't just me
At the bottom I didn't know how it would go
It could be worse if it came as a surprise
It might be better if you didn't have to know
It's not the fall that's so bad
It's waiting for impact
It hasn't happened yet, but it's a fact.

Purple Tongue

When we were young, bubble gum and purple tongues found my way into my memory of your smiling face.
Girl, would you recognize me without a purple tongue and with all my teeth, if I stood before you, looked in your eyes, and whispered the secret words that we made up when we were young?

You never have to hurtle fun
When you give yourself a purple tongue
See how fast the turtle runs
Taste the last of pearl felt suns
A purple tongue - an orange sun
Touch my forehead-make it ripple
Pluck the primal strings
Ten million miles of very little
Bringing what infinity brings
The sidewalk echos - it makes no sound
The worms are feasting - I am the ground
I am the ground
We are all worms
I hear your laugh
As your face turns to ash-
I looked into the eye
And saw only myself
But when I turned back around
There was everyone else
