Please take the poll, and weigh in on the thread if you have something useful to say.

Here is a comparison of the current version vs. 3.0: http://www.phpbb.com/about/features/

yeah, but what does it mean to ME ?

I kid.

I am all for updating, but does this mean we lose all of the current threads/posts etc... ?

IF YES THEN
only update if YOU/FIGHTMASTERS want to.

IF NO THEN
Update if its NOT too much of a pain. If its labor intensive...then don't do it until YOU/FIGHMASTERS want to.

I think its a balance of the costs in regards to losing lots of good information in ratio with how much work it will be for ya'll to implement this.

We wouldn't do it if it involved losing the existing posts.

Then what are you wasting our time for, get to f$%*~! work already, geez.

Wait, that was totally out of line. What I meant to say was, an upgrade would be so totally nice. Is there any way we can help?

Well, somebody might have TRIED it before and gained some experience that says "don't do it" or "do it X way" or "do it but be careful of Y".

Duh.

Any idea if it will help our recent problem with "hit the submit button and it may finish submitting in a couple minutes"? Or is that an issue with the size of the board? As long as it doesn't get slower, this is probably a good idea.

I like the idea of an updated board. It looks like you can send pms to whole groups at a time, so that would probably help out people organizing secret hxaros and stuff. From the looks of it, it's definitely superior in features, and if we don't lose all the old posts, I say go for it.

Hmmmmm. I like how the smilies are on the right now. It'll be nice once we have the SF logo instead of phpBB though.

Hell, if I'd known it'd give us killfiles and the ability to hide avatars/sigs/smileys, I'd have been pestering you to install this till you got sick of hearing from me. Nice one!

ok, I'm thinking job well done, JB. Looks like this went relatively smoothly, or you're hiding some behind the scenes drama. Thanks!

Yeah, there'll be some down sides to any upgrade

There seems to be a little weirdness with Private Messages - Paco sent me a couple and was told they couldn't be sent, so he deleted them, but then I got them, except the message said that the original message had been deleted.

And it seems like I'm getting more email notifications of new messages than I'm getting actual messages.

I haven't been tracking this with my usual obsessiveness, just letting you know that the PM handling may be a little flaky at the moment...

Nonetheless, thanks for doing the upgrade, JB! Hooray, FMs!

Just discovered a cool feature of this new one... I was posting a reply to a thread, but before I had posted, Spud had posted something, so before submitting, it let me read the new post and adjust my post accordingly. This should eliminate a billion "[edit: so-and-so beat me to it]" type posts.

I noticed that. It caught me off guard the first time, but it'll definitely be helpful.
