March 22, 2008 - the day of new

The earth was spinning at it's normal pace,
while wars were lumbering along with murderous grace.
The other side of the world was drying out,
but I swim in my pool with little doubt
There are pressing issues and change is needed now,
but what can I do? as I relax on the bow
Just then I was struck like the head of a nail,
I am part of a community with future filled sails
A community that believes that every oyster should have a pearl
So change has taken place to offer it's hand to the world.
YAY, I made teh poetreez
QOTD: What do you think of the site format changes?

QotD:The format change was a decent B-Day gift I guess, but cash would have been better!

QOTD: Maybe it's just me, but I'm getting serious eye-strain with all these shades of blue. Ouch.

Damn, guess the disabling of word censoring in the user prefs doesn't affect the board-wide ones.

Returning from SF yesterday was a challenge. We drove from Squaw Valley early on, got on our plane, took off, then noticed we were turning around. El captain announced we had lost all the hydrolics in #3 (we found out later this meant the right wing had no hydrolics), and were returning to SF for an emergency landing... "but don't worry". I did notice they had put the flaps fully down when we were still quite high and moving quite fast (I later figured this was because they thought they'd lose this ability if they waited much longer). This made the plane shake insanely all the way down until we landed... "and we will be met by emergency vehicles, so don't be alarmed". They took the plane out of service and we took another plane hours later, ended up arriving home at 5 am, safely. And the drinks were free.
QotD: I find it difficult tracking the authors with avatars on the right.

I agree. I prefer the authors on the left!

I want my big SF logo in the upper left that takes you over to .org.
Other than that, I 'magine I'll get used to all the new stuff.

I concur with the posters identity being on the right. Or are we all just conditioned to want it on the right? Is this SongFights way of freeing us from the shackles of conventional society?
Seriously, put the avatars on the right.
I also like the forum tagline up the top
"A short text to describe your forum"
Catchy.

I'm watching "An Inconvenient Truth," finally.
Also, god damn the default phpBB3 template looks like ass. I hope the code is at least better-factored than it used to be.
Oh, and I leave for Japan tomorrow. Eep!

Sausage Boy is in the Southern Hemisphere. That's our left.
It's all because of the Coriolis Effect....

If you had followed the 80x80 rule to begin with, you wouldn't be having this problem.

I'm glad that Roymond's plane landed OK, that's e-fucking-nough for me. I'm so glad that I don't have to travel for work or business, as that would've been my last flight. Where da choo-choo at?
I like the new functions available to the individual users here, and am sure that the powers that be will spiff up the looks of the place when they can. What's with those circles next to the topics? Some scroll, some have a red star, some don't have or do either. It doesn't take much, but I don't get it. Is anyone willing to enlighten a dumb guy?

Speaking of business travel, right now I'm at the airport waiting for my flight to Tokyo.

Agreed! If there's a template with the avatars on the left, I would much prefer that. I'm already learning how to use the new version now though. It's amazing how we can adapt to these things so easily. But I don't think I could get used to the animated paper next to active topics. That's probably the worst thing about the change in my opinion. I'm sure that's fairly easy to change though.

If in your User Control Panel, you go to Board Preference and choose just about anything other than prosilver, you get icons on the left, and pretty much everything else is better, too. prosilver was just a bad choice for the default, but I guess we should give jb a break, it was probably the default default.
Also, don't forget to edit the html out of your sig.

I assumed it was the only theme available (I did my prefs as soon as it came back online, and it was the only choice) Thanks for the headup, Spud, I'll have to check it out again!

Thanks, man. Yeah, not the best situation. I do my business commute (these days) via Amtrak to D.C. But then, when I think about it, a friend was on the
train that crashed on that route. So, where da bike at?
As for the new templates, I got things straightened out. I wish there was a "work safe" template that didn't have avatars and fancy color schemes.

Oh no! The new board won't make links to wikipedia work? Crap.
Roy, you can turn off avatars in your user prefs I think.

See, I read the forum standing on my head. So my right is your left, but upside down, because i am at the bottom of the world, with Ray. We love it at the bottom.
The tag line is much better now, too.

Has anyone else noticed how much faster the new board runs? I love it.
But I wish the green in glossygreen was changed to a less harsh colour.
