Thought I'd say hi. Not really sure what to say

I'm older than I like to think, been playing since I was 4 years old, writing since my early teens. I play several instruments, do my own recordings, studied electronics and music at university and have played in lots of bands and hundreds of gigs. Now I'm more or less recording and album of material with the plan of releasing it.

That's me I guess.

Somebody else using creamware cards..... wow ... about time an all

Now I got some backup when I try to tell the cats around here how all their fireboxes and M-audios pale into insignificance when compared to the beauty that is a Pulsar

Still, its a problem with bad marketing. The actal product is, truly, the finest soundcard Ive ever seen. Totally free routing possibilities, a modular system to die for, the highest quality synths (seriously these things sound better than any VST) and outstanding effect units (including the greatest of all virtual reverbs (Timeworks A-100/P-100)) not to mention the huge slew of free softwares being released all the time, often made to fit requests from other users. And all at 0 latency.
erm... the samplers aint great (tho they are excellent AKAI S-x000 clones), but hey you cant have everything.

And the new box is gonna be awesome.


*the company name has changed. Now some of the original crew are in possesion of the technology, with a new company called Sonic-Core. Another company with rights to the tech is called inDSP or a sub called UseAudio. Sonic-Core are still running outta Germany and have recenlty shown the new box at the messe, along with the outstanding Solaris synth (John Bowen Synths) which is built on the same technology, and originally appeared as a plugin for the boards. InDSP are running outta india, their new device, Pluggiator, is a host that holds some of the Creamware synths in an external box. Tho it looks a bit cheap and nasty, and I would invest there, just wait till May and buy a superbigboy...... s'wat Im gonna do

yeh I know, but Im passionate about these things.....
And seriously Im serious....hehe..the quality of sound from the boards is truly exeptional, nay second to none. Ive played for example, the NI hammond, and the Creamware hammond, and tbh the NI is a mere pretender*.

and as for the 0 latency thing.... well ok ... but near as damnit...

and I mean as near as damn it. the stuff running on the card (synths and effects) runs at the same kind of latencies as hardware, which is practically 0. Tho admitedly the ASIO stuff only delivers at only 2 ms. Which is comparable to most interfaces, and better than some.

Yeah I love my creamware cards. I use a VST sysem on my laptop and I use creamware on my main system. To be honest I find advantages and disadvantages in both systems. Each allows me to do different things... BUT... with the Creamware system I can still use VSTs... so I get the benefits of both

Creamware products are expensive, but their problem is not to do with the quality of the product or the features it offers. Creamware pitched themselves primarily at the professional music industry and semi-pro, but with the rise in home studios the market shrunk. Don't confuse bad business planning with poor product design.

Creamware cards are expensive for a reason. They knock the spots off most audio cards on the market. Sure you can get a good sound with any reasonable soundcard these days, but a creamware system is gives you a huge amount of processing power and unparalleled versatility at almost no cost to your CPU overhead.

If the problem is that you cannot see the advantages, then I would guess you haven't seriously used a Creamware system or a comparable reconfigurable audio system. To be so dead set against something if you haven't would just be pulling something down because you want to defend the choices you have made. Cool if you wanna do that, but it doesn't make Creamware systems bad.

Where I have a problem with Creamware was their software update policy and I admit I am concerned about if they will still be around in a year. Their product can be the best thing ever, but few will venture the cash to buy a system from a company in that position... and there in lies the problem that has plagued them from before the first time that Creamware got into trouble.

See, here's the main problem I have with creamware/soniccore/whoever - every now and then I think to myself 'yeah, a dedicated dsp soundcard to take the strain off my main cpu would be nice'. Then I go look at the cost. Then I look at what I could get for that price if I spent it on a PC instead, as a dedicated VST box. I mean, I'm sure the creamware stuff is decent, but I don't see how it could possibly compete with NI Komplete running on a quadcore cpu with 4GB RAM. OK, if I didn't have Komplete already it might be a tougher call, depending on what gets bundled with the cards and what I could scare up on a PC for the equivelant price, but as I do have Komplete it seems a total no-brainer.

And that's without the concern of buying into a platform that seems to me to be in intensive care and might croak at any moment. I'd worry about being left with a closed system that I can't get upgrades for.

Still, I'm keeping an eye out on the ASX expension card if they ever get around to releasing it, if it's a reasonably priced it might find a home in my CME UF60.

Edit: Actually, if I'm being honest, the main problem I have with them is I get so tired of watching Me$$y jizz off over his keyboard over them at the slightest provocation. I mean, I'm all for word-of-mouth endorsement and all, really, but can we please leave the hype to the marketroids and stick to reality?
