It's...a new guitar!

I just bought the J Mascis Jazzmaster and it's very cool. The sound is much like my freind's '64 Jazzmaster- big and round but bright. But this thing is deep. purple. metalflake. Absolutely jaw-dropping. With the gold anodized aluminum guard, yet. I never noticed, when playing my buddy's JM, that they're considerably longer than most others (Tele, Strat). The scale length is the same Fender length, but the neck is way out there. Doesn't completely fit in my gigbag. I'm loving the sound of this thing and will try to feature it heavily on my next SF contribution. Any other Jazzmaster players out there?

Don't know a thing about 'em. Except what you just said, of course.

Got photos?

I like the spiffy purple, less so the gold. What does that lead/rhythm switch do, exactly? Does it provide a boost or something? Anyway, looking forward to hearing it. Go man, go! Give us a little wiggle stick as well!

I wasn't keen on the gold pickguard either. I was thinking of making a white pearloid one for it- until I realized it was actually aluminum. Now I like it alot. The rhythm switch bypasses the toggle and volume/tone knobs, and activates the two knurled sideways-type knobs. It's kinda like the filter switch on a Gretsch, making for a darker, jazzier tone. I was jamming with a freind on the weekend and found the switch useful for on-the-fly extreme tone changes, bypassing the darker tones for a brighter sound at times.

Pretty neat. Lots of instant variations, without a doubt. Thanks.
