Missing the old logo link behavior

I used to like how the logo at the top-left linked to http://www.songifght.org, back when it was the actual songfight logo and not the phpbb logo. Now it just links to the board index, which is redundant 'cos there's already a 'board index' link. Any chance of getting the old logo behavior back?

Me too. Doesn't even have to be the logo, just something that links to the main fight page.

I have implemented this behavior on prosilver, subsilver2, and vidowhateveritis. Glossy Green and Blue are a little more complicated, because there is no logo, but I will see what I can do.

Maybe the code gurus here could make a simple iFrame scheme to do this. (or this, depending on personal preference)

That's close, but it uses plain old frames, which are bad. And the side menu on the main songfight.org page is still there... waste of browser space, IMHO.
Maybe use some cool dhtml tricks to make stuff 'slide' in or out from the main page. (in an iframe, of course)
Also, monkeys. Lots of monkeys. Because *everyone* likes monkeys.

Use the horizontal slider to move it over.

To accomplish your goal, I would probably have to divide the main page into three pages in frames. That is possible, but the effort is unlikely worth the return. Incentivise me.

Thanks Spud, that's spot on now! Much appreciated.

I'm sure this is such a simple idea that there's some reason why it wouldn't work, but... presumably somewhere in the configuration of the board, somebody typed in "A short text to describe your mom." Could that be changed to "<a href=http://www.songfight.org>Click here to go to the main songfight! page</a>" or something like that? I think that's all we're asking for is a one-click way to go from the forums to the main page.

Click the logo, Charles. Do we really want to lose "A short text to describe your mom"?

I looked through the source html of songfight.org, and (thank you for clearly marking the sections) couldn't you just make a current_fight.html using the <!-- COLUMN TWO --> section, then go

Code: Select all

<iframe
src ="http://songfight.net/forums"
width="82%"
height="100%">
</iframe>
<iframe
src ="http://songfight.org/current_fight.html"
width="18%"
height="100%">
</iframe>
That would change the frames to iframes, for one, and you'd have a narrow collumn on the right with the current fight (I realise, everyone has different preferences, but this, to me, would be the ideal songfight! experience.)

I was just kidding about the fancy dhtml tricks, BTW. But not the monkeys.

Yeah, except it's all generated by php, so I would have to look into how that would work, but in any case, I would have to have a need to do this, or a reason...

Yeah, well, I'm all selfish and stuff and I want a link and I want to keep using glossy green and I wanted it yesterday. Maybe it could still say "A short text to describe your mom" but clicking on it would take you to the songfight.org main page.

I'll just crawl back into my corner now...

Mark, I think you're perhaps being overzealous about avoiding frames. There are times when they're appropriate, I think. And with iframes, you can't resize them, as far as I know. Or am I wrong there? I haven't looked into that too much.

I was right! It doesn't work!

Thank you for trying, Mr. Fightmaster.

No, it doesn't work. Spud hacked the code, and now there is no text there, just a blank spot that if I hover over it happens to be linked. :P
