I typed up a whole paragraph and decided against submitting it...but you summed me up pretty nicely there.

Jesus, man... do you know the bartender who was on shift? (I mean, personally-ish, since it's your favorite watering hole &c.) Ask him or her about wtf was going on the next time you're in. Bartenders tend not to miss much, when it comes to needing insights on their customer's behavior. And it's good to have bouncers at your back should things turn all "Angel Heart" on you.
