Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog

Post by JonPorobil »

Neal Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, and Felicia Day star in a Joss Whedon musical about an aspiring supervillain who has a crush on the girl he always sees at the laundromat and keeps a video blog. It's pretty great, and you can view it in its entirety today for free, but they're taking it down soon so that we'll want to pay for it. But oh man, this is great.

I was curious about this, but not really curious enough to pay for it. Now I'll check it out.

That was pretty good. Lots of very funny moments. The cast was great. I'm not sure the musical stuff worked for me 100% of the time, though.

Thanks for the link, Jon. It's pretty good. I'm going to D/L it and watch the whole thing later.

I've been watching this all week (being the Whedon fan that I am) and it's been great. I didn't think that Whedon could pull off another musical successfully after "Once More With Feeling" but I was wrong. Very entertaining.

I'll only buy it if/when it comes out on DVD or a non-DRM file format, so I can watch it on my TV... not just on my iPhone/PC... blah!

What's the big deal of watching it on your TV? If that's a big deal, do you have a current gen game console? I use my Wii to watch YouTube on TV all the time.

According to the press stuff I read on the site before they switched everything up, a DVD release is in the works. So I guess just keep your eyes peeled. But yeah, I've never understood people who object to watching things on their computers, either.

I didn't know that you could do that. Thanks, Niv.

I don't like watching long movies on the computer. Mainly because I like watching "movies" with other people. But it's pretty easy to just D/L and burn, so no biggy.

I like watching things on my TV because I have a nice 57" TV with Surround Sound and also like to watch Movies & TV episodes with other people... and it's not quite the same experience if you are all huddled around a PC Screen with PC speakers... I own all current gen consoles, and none of them allow iTunes DRM videos to stream, unless there is some new way to do that. Usually I rip my store-bought DVD's to my 500 gig external HDD and stream them on my TV through my PS3...

Do you have a method of ripping DVDs that doesn't take 2 hours (seemingly) per DVD?

That's my only issue with ripping. It takes so damn long and it seem to slow down the rest of the computers on the same router. I'd like to know a better way if there is one.
.....well, I guess one could just buy it when it comes out on DVD.

Sounds like Songfight needs to be introduced to the TV-out video card!

(There are cheap ones available now!)

TV-out video card does me no good... my PC is upstairs, and my TV is downstairs... and as for ripping DVDs I use HD Decryptor (?) used to be called DVD Decryptor... and it takes about 20 mins to rip? then I use DVDShrink to compress it a little more, remove unwanted subtitles/languages and save more space... takes about 30 mins? Also ripping DVDs on one computer would have zero effect on other computers on a network router ;)

So the DVD is gonna be covered in features because well.. they distributed it for free online, so they want to give us lots of new content to enjoy. If you make your own villainous video blog (songs encouraged), then you can end up on the DVD. That's pretty awesome, right?

Sounds like an optional challenge.

Egg, you can be The Grape Fermento. Dress like The Penguin, but in all purple and vines hanging out of your sleeves. Your weapon can be the "squeeze ray". Part of your monologue will always include slurring your words. Your minions shoot poisonous grape seeds through straws. Your calling card is always a very rare and expensive bottle of red wine that the first cop on the scene always secretly sticks in his coat. Send me a movie check when it sells. :P

I started checking out the U2B vids for side kicks and villains the first time Dr H was announced. Start here and follow the links. Some are pretty good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06KNnfm8 ... re=related
