Songfight Olympics

SIDEFIGHT THREAD HERE -----> http://songfight.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5728

I've got Olympic fever and I don't care who knows it!

I love this stuff. And it is even better watching it from New Zealand. I don't even get to see the swimming and stuff I would normally watch (I think they on purpose steer away from things that Australians might win). I've been watching obscure New Zealanders in the rowing and the equestrian dressage!

Just saw a great hockey match against South Korea...GO YOU BIG BLACK STICKS*....GO HARD...GO HARD

(* yes, I am serious - the NZ Hockey Team is called "The Black Sticks")

Anyway.....

Who is up for a Songfight Team Event?

Drag together some geographically based teams - do a song - fly the flag - GO For Gold!

This could be a side fight - or not. How about we just get a few national teams entering in next weeks fight.

Each team should have at least 3 people - ideally not regular collaborators.

Teams should be loosely geographically based.

I would be happy to wear the green and gold with Sausage Boy, Denyer, Pigpen...and enter a song as Australia (or maybe 'ANZACS')

Nigel, Pedro, Adamant etc - any change of an England team?

Canada? Plenty of you lot out there.

We probably don't need a Team USA - how about you split up a bit?

Team California? Team Pacific North-West? Team Florida?

Or maybe even drag up your long forgotten ethnic origins. i'd be happy to represent Ireland if necessary.

Any takers?

Sounds like an excellent idea! I'm completely digging the olympics at the moment. I got really emotional watching the two british girls in the women's 400m freestyle swimming this morning. Patriotism all the way!

If anyone will join me for Team GB I think we can do the country proud.

i'd be part of someones team... Scotland anyone?! uhm... or East Coast USA? or I qualify as a Team Canada player if all else fails... one question tho... if I pick a team... and next olympics come around... am I ineligible for another team? like in Soccer... if you play for a national team, you can never play for any other national team...

I think this is a good idea.
I can qualify for East Coast US, or something, or if we do heritage I'm Polish/German.

Team Florida is a little busy and can't make the games. However, we'd be able to put forth the competitive spirit in about a week or maybe through to the end of the big games.

OK - if some teams are forming, we have 2 options here:

1. Enter songs by our Olympic teams into the current Fight (Calico Alley - 20/08/08 - that gives us just over a week from now, a few days before the Closing Ceremony on 24/08/08)...or
2. Set this as a side fight and pick a separate title - and give us a bit more time (I would suggest Closing Ceremony Day)

Option 2 is probably best.

Are the teams ready to enter the stadium?

I will prepare to light the flame....

Sidefight, I think, and perhaps the title(s) can be Olympic-related.

Team Marshaling Area

Few ideas for teams based on responses so far. Obviously not all of these will enter - one team per person please - just throwing up some possibilities based on where people live, where people have lived or any ethnic backgrounds people may be willing to claim.

I think teams should have at least 3 members - after that, the more the merrier.

Either put you hand up for a team suggested below - or suggest your own. Will finalise teams and measure everyone up for track-suits a bit later....

AUSTRALIA: Denyer, Caravan Ray
CALIFORNIA: Billy's Little Trip
CANADA: Cock
EAST COAST USA: Cock, Heuristics Inc, Hoblit
FLORIDA: Hoblit
GERMANY: Heuristics Inc
GREAT BRITAIN: Adam Adamant
IRELAND: Caravan Ray
KIRIBATI: Caravan Ray
NEW ZEALAND: Caravan Ray
POLAND: Heuristics Inc
SCOTLAND: Adam Adamant, Cock
USA: Cock, Hoblit, Heuristics Inc, Billy's Little Trip

Any ideas on a suitably random way of picking a title? I'm thinking I will find a newspaper report of the Opening Ceremony and randomly pick a phrase. Other suggestions welcome

Well, if you considered the Florida team everybody who is in Florida for the Calico Alley LIVE fight...then you might be on to something there.

I don't think it matters where you pick from, as long as you're drunk.

This is an unfortunate week to do this, as I'm leaving for Hawaii on Tues. I could probably throw together a hackjob tune, but I'm not sure if that's good enough to represent the Canada. :|

I don't know about that - throwing together something uninspiring and ordinary is probably exactly good enough to represent the Canada.

It would reflect your athletes perfectly!:

Still no medal for Team Canada in Beijing

OK, fine, BUT:
1. I've never met a Canadian that I didn't like.
2. Their dry humor is WAY funnier than England's
3. Their weed is the best in the world (some say it's moose pee)
4. ....ummm, ....oh, trailer park boys is funny as heck!
5. hrrm, ..I know there's more, but that's all I can think abooot at the moment.

Free healthcare? Stronger beer?

I'd help you out Reist, but I'd probably lower our chances of winning.

FWIW, I haven't seen a single person around here with a mullet since like 1985. Now, if you go to Alabama or Oklahoma in the US, I hear they are the haircut to have.

BTW, I'd be willing to join up with Team:Canada. I haven't recorded anything for a few weeks now, and kinda itching to.

OK
- lets get this underway.

I will start a new thread with the title

Start immediately

Finish in about 2 weeks or so

Teams:
AUSTRALIA
CANADA
GREAT BRITAIN
USA

If anyone wants to organise a breakaway Florida or California team or whatever - go for it. (Of course everyone in Florida for SF Live is eligible to represent Florida, if you can get something together as a team while you are there)
