I got a call last Thursday night from my best friend out in Gilbert, AZ. (near Phoenix) Her mother passed away after a long battle with Cancer. We knew it was terminal and we also knew that it couldn't be long. I had the chance to fly out to Arizona a couple of months ago and did get to enjoy a fine breakfast with her.
She was the reason my friend Dawn moved out to Arizona, to spend time with her mother in her final days. This woman was in no way an invalid and was very active up until her last few days here on earth. She even battled off cancer a couple of decades before. She was very strong and practical. She always amazed me with how simple she could make things that I would find complicated. She could always negotiate a diplomatic solution be it a business deal or planning a date. I see a lot of her value in my friend and I am always quick to point it out.
This is a hard time for my friend but she's handling it way better than I would have previously given her credit for. Dawn can be very rigid and hot tempered but in the words of Bob Dylan, she breaks just like a little girl. So I was really worried about this day coming. But she has surprised me in the most positive way. She even called me on Saturday to let me know that she went back to work.
While none of you have ever met her, some of ya'll know about her. Anyways, I just wanted to let this community, which is very close to me, know that a very close friend of mine is in my thoughts and prayers. So, this is my way of asking for a moment of silence.
QotD: What is a moment of silence? (for you)
