Another mediocre musician

Hi! I'm Jan from Germany (the accent isn't THAT bad. I think). I found SF fairly recently (during the Mediocre Savior submission period, I think) and I think I'll stick around. I actually wanted to contribute to the past two fights too but somehow I missed the deadlines. This time (Interesting Times) I'm in.

I'm not under the illusion that what I'm creating is particularly great (the usual: no formal training, no professional experience, yadda yadda) but I sort of like it better than I think I could, and I'm hoping for lots of feedback to help me get better. In return I'll try to post reviews of my own, at least in fights I participate in.

By the way, I read in the Sidefight board that many SF regulars have done an Album-A-Day or several along the way. I've already completed my AAD before coming here... perhaps later on we'll see what happens when I do another AAD, armed with tons of experience from songfighting.

Looking forward to whatever happens now.

welcome to songfight.
do you have your ADD posted on-line anywhere?
i would be interested to hear it.
there are also other "marathon" songwriting challenges out there:
FAWM: February Album Writing Month (fawm.org) - write 14 songs in 28 days.
RPM: Record Production Month (rpmchallenge.com) - also held in February. the goal is to write and record an album of 10 songs or 35 minutes worth of music.
and going on now:
50/90 challenge: (5090.fawm.org) - write 50 songs in 90 days (from July 4 to October 1).

Thanks! And thanks to the good wishes from you other guys, too (in real German even! I'm flattered). ;)

Sure thing! It's at http://jan-krueger.net/general-creativi ... m-a-day-01 (the details at least; the files are hosted at the Internet Archive. Link and stream player on that page).

I knew about two of those (FAWM and 50/90). I guess I'll need a bit more experience with making music before I attempt any of them, though. I'm not very efficient yet.

guten tag! good to see more of an international contingent here at sf. we spent half of our honeymoon in germany in 2005, but that was wuerzburg - rothenburg - muenchen - fuessen and those are nowhere near aachen. i also am ashamed to admit i've forgotten almost all of my german. ich spreche nur ein bissen deutsch.

Welcome to songfight!

Feedback 1.0: Do not use lack of formal training and lack of professional experience as excuses for why you haven't made anything particularly great. Untrained amateurs can make great music just as well as trained professionals.

Anything Bill says pretty much applies to me, overall. From here on in I'll just relax in the comforting knowledge that somehow he is living a nearly parallel existence to mine.

Was tust du?
Ich uber geiger.
Bist du mude?
Ya!

(umlauts lacking, among other fine details)

Fair enough, and I actually only added that as an afterthought. I should have put it somewhere else, I guess, to avoid making it look like a bad excuse. On the other hand, I don't have any good excuses, so this one is better than none at all. Perhaps.

Don't worry. English is actually a lot better than German... but don't tell anyone in Germany I said that.

Thanks. It was an AAD though. As I said, I don't think I'd manage 50/90 yet. ;)
