DRC: I missed work today thanks to a disabling migraine. I get those really twisted migraines that include a scintillating scotoma. I lose part of my vision for a short amount of time, as it is replaced with a pulsating crescent shaped light aura. That wouldn't have made taking the train to work possible.
QotD: Do you have any health issues?

QotD: Nothing as serious as that. That doesn't sound pleasant at all, man. I could stand to lose a few pounds (again), but that's about it.
Roll Call: Got a used bass amp for the studio for $100 today. Yay!

Niv - I experienced the same thing once, and it scared the crap out of me. I thought I was having a stroke. A neurologist later told me it was "migraine with aura". That was a couple of years ago. This year, from about the first of February until about early July, I was alternately dizzy and nauseous just about every day. I went through just about every medical test known to man, culminating in an MRI. The findings were "non-diagnosable". Fortunately, I've been feeling much better lately. But losing your sense of health and well-being for several months, and having no idea what's wrong with you and whether you'll ever get better, really messes with your psychology and your sense of priorities in life. If you have your health, that's something to be grateful for every single day, no doubt.

I'm starting to need glasses.
I feel for you and your migraine thing Niv. I've had terrible hangovers and yours sounds much worse, because you see pulsating crescent shaped light orbs, I just see hammers pounding on my skull......which I enjoy because I'm a masochist.

QotD: This hasn't been a good year. For the first time I've really felt the effects of long term issues. And it's not nice.

QotD: I have pretty bad allergies beginning of spring and end of summer. End of summer allergies started early this year for me cuz it's already down to the 60's and 70's for a high and 40's and 50's for low. For Kansas, it's way too early for it to be this cool. Last year we mowed our yard all the way into the end of October. At this rate it's gonna be a bitch of a winter.

QotD: My wife suffers from clinical depression with anxiety attacks on occasion. She's the sweetest thing in the world, though.
Because of my work situation, it kind of feels on some days that I'm getting to depression myself (especially since I've now seen the symptoms through my wife) I've been pretty healthy my whole life outside of that...

QotD: I have no depth perception and my glasses quit working - therefore I walk into tables, walls, and people on a daily basis and am prone to accidentally injuring myself in general. I am comic relief.

I solve that problem by not driving.

qotd: Not anything serious. Some of the shit I'm getting into lately is likely to have consequences on my health, so that has me a bit worried. But the only cure for that is to stop being a moron, but that's a bit too much to ask.

...that all sounds familiar.
(oh - except for the work making me depressed bit...I refuse to take work that seriously)

I'm healthy, as far as I can tell. I just yesterday had a physical FOR A JOB, although it wasn't too extensive. Also in the past 24 hours: voted in New Hampshire primary, a wake, and today, a funeral. I kept thinking of the SF! title "Late For A Funeral", although I kept that to myself. We were running late and missed the start of the proceedings. Not to bum anyone out, but the girl was only 29 years old, a medical student, world traveler, outwardly healthy. Dead of a brain aneurysm. Just a reminder that you don't know when or where, so enjoy every breath.

That's sad, Charlie. I just had a wake up call like this a couple weeks ago. One of the site moderators, Chad Wershbale, on the Mustang site I admin at was killed in a car accident on July 27th. He just turned 31 in April. He was a member there for five years and we became really good friends. He was going to be in Cali for Christmas and was going to be staying with me. It took me days to get back to normal after hearing the tragic news.

drc: Doing design work on stuff. Problem I thought was fairly simple has suddenly unfolded like a four-dimensional origami Hilbert curve. Not sure how feasible it is, especially on our fairly tight schedule. Guess I could work on a lower-impact thing first while my subconscious does its usual run-on-a-hamster-wheel-until-I-suddenly-come-up-with-a-brilliant-solution-out-of-the-blue thing.
niv: Sometimes I get migraines pretty frequently, although it depends on stress levels. I've only gotten the scintillating scotoma once though. It was freaky and then the really weird thing was even though I couldn't see anything through it I could still read stuff. The brain is a really weird thing.
qotd: migraines, asthma, and a family history which makes me want to die before I get old enough that I have to start worrying about shit like kidney failure or colorectal cancer or whatever. Somehow my two remaining grandparents have both made it to 97 though and have only started having major problems recently, and my mom's dad died in a car accident and my dad's mom died of emphysema and lung cancer due to smoking so it's not as if genetics are implicated in their deaths.
