Question of the Day: Have you ever seen a 3D movie where you need the special cardboard glasses with the red and blue plastic film? If so, what was the movie?

I remember them from when I was a kid. But last night a friend brought over the movie The Sun in 3D and a hand full of the cheap cardboard glasses. It was great! I plan to watch more of these anaglyph movies. I'd like to find some good old horror movies to have playing on my big screen for my Halloween party. I'll just have some 3D glasses laying around on the coffee table for those interested.

I saw House Of Wax in the theatres when they re-released it 30 years ago. It was fun, I guess. But then again, I love Vincent Price, so it probably would have liked it regardless. Neat, though.

I was looking up Anaglyph horror movies and found a bit torrent with 3 movies in the download. Friday the 13th, Jaws and Amity Ville. Wonder if it's as good as the DVD I saw last night? I won't use Jaws for my party, but if they look good, I saw a few other horror classics on bit torrent.

Isn't the 3-D stuff making a comeback or something? I thought that I read that somewhere. You'd think it might be easier nowadays.

Many of the 3ds these days use these glasses with grey lenses, I think they're probably polarized rather than using red and blue filters. I think the quality's better too. I have some 3d glasses in my coffee table drawer, dunno why, but they are there nonetheless. For when it becomes important. I was a Boy Scout so I am prepared for such things. What movies? Who knows. These things are lost to the mists of time.

Ok, Mr Williams had a little chat with me today. I respect his professional and straight forward demeanor. So I have decided to avoid a $17 million dollar law suite and meet his demands. Looking at my change to the octothorpe last night when I was fdinked made me laugh just now. I don't remember doing that. Is it lame to laugh at your own stupid jokes? Because that's funny as f**k!

By the way, I forgot, we make the weekend DRC a 2 day party. So if someone has a Sunday QOTD, go for it. Or just snub the system and make and Octofifth thread.

It may be funny to you, but Mr. Williams is not amused.

OK, after much deliberation, we decided to change our name to octofifth. Our new logo. I'm quite sure that this one will keep me out of court.

Toy Story 3 will be in 3-D. I kid you not. Could be awesome, could be Walt Disney destroying the greatness that was Pixar.

I have seen a few of the recent 3-D things: "Meet the Robinsons" and "Fly Me to the Moon." The latter was a terrible movie, but in both cases teh 3-D aspect was very effective. These are both CG so they can create teh 3-D effect without any light hitting film, which I think always generated a smidge of"distortion" in it's lack of precision. I still find the extreme effects distracting, but the immersiveness of the C environment definitely was accentuated by the 3-D.

I saw a few 3D movies back in the day. Jaws 3, Friday the 13th 3, and this one adventure film called Treasure of the Four Crowns, I think. Oh, and the Michael Jackson movie Captain Eo at Disney (Epcot?).

That U2 concert movie in 3D was pretty intense. Generally very good use of layering (panning from one shot to the next via 3D layers) and great overhead shots of the drums. But also a couple gratuitous 3D-in-your-face shots of Bono reaching into the audience that certainly hearkened back to the thriller genre.

The only movie I ever recall watching in 3D was something at Disney World, involving the Muppets. I distinctly remember Fozzy Bear throwing a pie, and it flying straight towards the audience. I don't remember much else about it; I was quite young.

I watched that Michael Jackson one at Epcot when I was a kid... My first 3d Movie... also the Alfred Hitchcock & Terminator ones at Universal I think... and an Underwater imax movie... pretty cool.

Channel 32, Chicago, Saturday nights in the early '80s (when I lived there, at least), the Son of Svengoolie show. First time I saw Creature from the Black Lagoon in 3D.

I may be misremembering this, it could've been his brief stint on sister station channel 44, Oakland. Well, he was still in Chicago, but they carried him out west too.
