The Weekend 10/11 & 10/12, 2008

Just finished watching Pan's Labyrinth. It wasn't all the hype made it out to be but it wasn't a complete waste of 2 hours.

QotW: What was the last thing that you tried out that failed to live up to your expectations? What was the last thing you tried out that exceeded your expectations?

For me, this movie failed to live up to the expectations, even though I didn't hate it. It's just missed the mark after all the hype and praise I had gotten from people, it ended up just being decent. Nothing wrong with that, though.

On the flipside, I had heard so damn much about Santogold, I expected to have that same 50/50 reaction that I have with M.I.A. but she has exceeded my expectations and I am really enjoying her music.

Question of the Weekend
A. the let down: The Carl's JR pastrami burger. All the commercials and hype. What's not to like? A charbroiled burger and delicious pastrami, right? What a let down when I ate one. Terrible. Image

B. the surprise: Welch's grape juice and Bacardi rum. Incredibly tasty and healthy. I'm not sure if it has a name, but I'm thinking I'll call it, The Blood of Jeebus. Image

Welcome to Carl's Jr. Might I suggest an EXTRA BIGASS TACO

QotD: I have ridiculously low expectations of everything, so I'm never disappointed. Conversely, when something is really great, it's like way better than I expected. win/win.

Season. The Toronto Maple Leafs. See, in the hockey world, they are hated by hockey fans like the Yankees, but without the pedigree. Likewise, if you're a fan, you pretty much are loyal to the team no matter how ridiculous the outcome.

For the past few years, older stars and veterans would "retire" to the leafs, bringing great expectations with marginal return. They were just TOO OLD.

This year, they blew the team up, got themselves a team that is 25 and under in age, with the goal of FINALLY doing it right. Like just about every other team... and I realized when they beat Detroit on Thursday that this might be more fun... cause they aren't "supposed" to win... so each win is gonna be awesome due to the new, low expectations I have! Likewise, losses wont' matter cause, really, they need to tank the season(s) and get some first round draft picks going to build it up right.

Yeah. I used an apostrophe when I shouldn't. This is a surprise to you??? LOL

That's what... heh. I AM NOT A GRAMMARTICIAN!!!

I just woke up from a nap. I fell asleep watching Good Eats. Good Eats dreams are perhaps weirder than other falling-asleep-while-watching-afternoon-TV dreams.

qotd: 1) my condo, insofar as my new upstairs neighbors (who moved in after me) seem to be going out of their way to prove how little sonic isolation there is between us. 2) i dunno i'm not feeling good about anything right now

I was expecting Mark to have a much better answer than that.
