After I got the phone call today with a job offer, the first thing I did was celebrate by spending some money on World of Goo.
Wow it's good. It's probably the best puzzle game I've played since Lemmings.
The premise is simple: The little balls of goo are your lemmings; you have to get them to the goal. To get them there, however, you need to use some of them to create structures for their brethren to climb on. Most of them can't be retrieved after they've been applied to a structure. The structures sway and eventually topple if you're not careful enough, and while I'm playing, I really do feel like I'm creating wobbly buildings out of semi-sentient beings (as opposed to, of course, playing a game).
I'm playing the Wii version. The WiiMote is a mouse, and the controls are so simple that you really only need one button. My only complaint is that the controls might have done better with a bit of complexification: sometimes you need a bit of nigh-impossible precision to pick up the right gooball, and sometimes you need to click on something that happens to be directly behind an on-screen menu element. I like the simplicity of having all the menu stuff on-screen and visible to click on, but I also wouldn't have minded if the 1 or 2 buttons opened up the menu instead.
Anyways. It's a good game. If you like puzzles and/or physics simulators, give it a go.

Re: World of Goo
I played Tower of Goo a bit a couple of years ago and the mechanics are very cool. Of course that one lacked a bit in replayability since there wasn't much of a goal
Nice to see the game concept being revisited and expanded.

Re: World of Goo
Man, I bought this game today - it's awesome! And addicting. But I won't let myself play through too much at once ... it's an experience to be savored for sure. And I have midterms coming up so ... maybe buying this was a terrible choice.

Re: World of Goo
From the description it sounds like a mashup between Lemmings and Locorocco. Y/N?

I hadn't heard of Locorocco until now, but from the looks of it, I'd say you're pretty close in your mashup. Except the lemmings are sticky.fluffy wrote:From the description it sounds like a mashup between Lemmings and Locorocco. Y/N?
