Let's Start a Punk Band

So, I think I've finally found my vocalist niche (growling/chanting) and I'm really enjoying writing the punkish songs of late.
What I'd like is a real bass and some real drums to give the recordings a more authentic feel and some folks to bounce ideas off of in this genre.
Any takers?

Count me in as a bass player in the punk stylee.
Finding a drummer might be trickier! [insert endless drummer jokes here] Actually Eric Y, The Yoice Inside Your Head, might be worth trying? he is of a worthy punk disposition.

Wish I had more time. (I'm in two punk rock bands and one of them has a bunch of gigs lined up)
If you're still needing 'band members' in November and December, update this thread at that time.
I'm not a very good drummer but I can play and can record my drum set.
I play bass and guitar.
Vocals whether lead or back up are also offered.

Well - if you're looking for a drummerless band with 4 bass-playing vocalists - yeah, I could help too.

I figured live drums would be hardest part. Hey, even if someone wants to volunteer their programming chops, I'd be happy. I understand the basics behind drumming, but the finer points elude me, at least composition-wise. I hear great stuff, but I'll be damned if I could reproduce those rhythms with leafDrums, never having any training.
De toute façon, thanks for the raised hands. I'll be in touch.

BTW, I was kidding. I don't even know what punk is. But I do play bass.

And this distinguishes it from Heavy Metal, Alt. Rock, and even Rap, how?

Punk rock (often referred to simply as punk) is a rock music genre that developed between 1974 and 1976 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Rooted in garage rock and other forms of what is now known as protopunk music, punk rock bands eschewed the perceived excesses of mainstream 1970s rock. They created fast, hard-edged music, typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics. Punk embraces a DIY (do it yourself) ethic, with many bands self-producing their recordings and distributing them through informal channels.

"Heavy Metal" couldn't really be described as being
"typically with short songs, stripped-down instrumentation, and often political, anti-establishment lyrics". It just has songs about elves and vikings and shit.
And I don't think Rap can be described as a "Rock Music" genre -
"The roots of hip hop are found in African American and West African music. The griots of West Africa are a group of traveling singers and poets, whose musical style is reminiscent of hiphop and who are part of an oral tradition dating back hundreds of years.
Whereas Rock Music
has its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll and rockabilly, which evolved from blues, country music and other influences. In turn, rock music drew on many other musical influences, including folk music, jazz, and classical music.

I don't actually know what Alt. Rock is - but it always seems to sound like Nickelback or Matchbox 20 - so it is probably best avoided.

Originally, alternative rock was a catch-all term for music that didn't fit a mainstream genre and often consists of various subgenres.

Punk Rock is about attitude, (and Ghost Town Gridlock did record AND PACKAGE our own EP a few years ago... a total DYI job)
Heavy Metal is about ...heaviness.
There is some cross over but there are definite distinctions.
Punk has its own sub genre's that can barely be considered punk these days... ska being the most notable.
I know a band here in Tampa called Hatchetface, they say that they are hardcore punk but I don't really think that defines them very well. I think they are heavy metal. But its that grey area. Black Flag was punk rock but there are a lot of hardcore bands like them that seem to cross over into the Metal category these days.
bleh.
I'm in a traditional punk rock outfit called Ghost Town Gridlock, but my other band The Funeral Dazies would be considered Horror Punk and while there are similarities (we even share songs) we are vastly different from GTG.

To say my definition sucks is saying that Merriam Webster's definition sucks.
By the way, I've said in the past that Octophorpe is Avant–Garage Punk, a term coined by David Thomas.
Although my studio stuff has been evolving, I still consider myself nothing more than a fusion of lo-fi rock and punk with a few simple subgenres branching off of each. If I had to pick a genre, I'd pick Garage Punk.
