Help me pick my video camera

Ok, here's a cross-posting from another board. Basically, I get bonus points for playing poker, and have accumulated enough to get a camera.
I'm nearing enough points to start looking at the mid-level electronics items FT offers. I've been wanting a nice video camera for a long time now, and FT just added another camera, giving me a cheaper choice:

I don't really know much about cameras, I've never owned one.

Basically, I want to take reasonably good quality video, and be able to quickly and painlessly ship it to my computer. I have a firewire interface, so I'm good there. I'll probably use Premiere for editing, unless someone has other suggestions. I'll mostly be doing a lot of time warping - very little in the way of effects, transitions, or titles.

Mostly, I'll be taping skateboarding and snowboarding, maybe some rubik's cubing, maybe some night-vision secks.

Things I'm interested in are a high frames-per-second + high resolution, and perhaps the ability to add a different lens. Also will definitely be getting a tripod, and a remote would be cool. If neither of these offers any options, then so be it.
Then...
Ok, I've been looking at these a little more, and have some questions.

Minimum shutter speed: The big guy says 30 1/x sec, and the mini says 4000 1/x sec.

Maximum shutter speed: Big guy says 250 1/x sec, and the mini says 30 1/x sec.

What do those numbers mean? Odd that one would go up and the other would go down. Is that a misprint? Also, the big guy has a min. lux rating of 6 vs. the mini's 8.

The mini doesn't list its max video resolution, but its still image capture is almost 2x that of the big guy.

The big guy records in MPEG format, while the mini records in DV. What difference will this make in file size, quality, and compatibility with my editing software?

I don't know what the shutter speeds mean, but I'm leaning towards the mini right now. I'd gladly pay the extra 18,000 fpp's if I was certainly getting a better camera, but that's not clear to me right now.
Thoughts?
