One-Minute Songs

I love short songs. Right now I'm trying to compile a mix of songs that are one minute long or shorter, and I'm sure there are lots of good ones that I'm forgetting...Anyways, here's what I have so far:

valerie - the sex clark five
the eyebright burgler - deerhoof
i want to marry a lighthouse keeper - erika eigen
wythe marshall - 40 second songs
14 green typewriters - the olivia tremor control
pine - heavy vegetable
it's beautiful - the fraternal order of the all
cancel - portable folk band
biggest fan - the poison control center
blossom - folk implosion
interlude - fear of pop
last ride of the pony express - optiganally yours
the america dream - screeching weasle
jagermeister pie - beck
the friar's lament - apples in stereo
sporting life - young marble giants
nixon's the one - mono puff
lullabye - emmit rhodes
abe lincoln's moustache - major organ and the adding machine

I'm not really happy with all of these tracks, so if people could give some good suggestions (maybe of songs on this site?). Also, I'd prefer they not be instrumentals, unless they're really good or by important artists.

I know I want to use something by the magnetic fields, half handed cloud, TMBG, and the residents, but I'm not sure which track, yet. Plus, I'm sure that I'm forgetting people.

I will suggest that you switch out "The American Dream" for "Thrift Store Girl" which is a much better Screeching Weasel song (according to me).

I will also suggest that you check out these songs:

It was a sidefight where the songs were supposed to be as close to one minute as possible. I remember liking the one by the Hell Yeahs.

I remember liking this song by Johnny Cashpoint's Tuba Fury too.

I notice nothing from The Residents' 'Commercial Album' on your list - 40 one-minute songs for your listening pleasure.

This was a favorite record in college:
Miniatures - a collection of one minute songs from an amazing assortment of folks. david bedford's "wagner's ring in one minute" is especially charming. As is pete seeger's "chorale from beethoven's 9th symphony" on banjo. I think there was a sequel as well, but I've never heard it.

Oh, the Residents definitely have a spot on this album, but I haven't decided which song yet.

Oh, and thanks for the link, 15-16.

Oh, and that album looks pretty cool, Roymond...Though, are most of those covers or originals?

Oh, no!

if you're including grindcore, you can get 100 songs under a minute right here.

I read about the following project the other day, and then when I read this thread originally I imagined that I had dreamed it or something, but then I did a little searching and realized that I hadn't imagined it after all:

http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/100.htm

He doesn't place the "less than one minute" restriction upon it that you do, but in order to get 100 songs on a CD they'd have to be pretty short ones. Of course, you don't just want to steal his list (found here: http://worldofstuart.excellentcontent.com/100b.htm ) but there are some good songs on it, like "Deny Everything" by The Circle Jerks and "Her Majesty" by The Beatles. (I haven't heard most of the list.)

Hear hear, though I only know about a tenth of 'em, and have exactly three on tape somewhere. Are the two songs by "Sparks" the same Sparks of dancing spiderman fame?

Between The Rain - Spy Vs. Pie

Rumor has it that Big Mountain Fudge Cake clocked in at 25 seconds for "New Sex". And it's clearly the best song in the universe.

Rumour out west is that Big Mountain Fudge Cake was actually Vanilla Ice.

one of the tracks listed is 'friend for life' by today is the day, who are one of the sweetest (and most truly brutal) bands ever.

I suggest all of the little songs that constitute "Fingertips". I don't think I'm the first to think of that, though. "Spine" and "Spines" by TMBG, too. Oh. And "spider" by them.
"Things to do in New York" by Level Nivelo is pretty good. And, uh. "things to do in New York" by Prepubescent Canada is... under a minute?
The song "Silent Time" by Potshot is kinda cool, but it's an instrumental. "End of the long summer" by them, too.
"Kick you out" by Glorious Mono is somewhat cool.
"Papercuts and Spilling Guts" by The Voice Inside Your Head.
"Uniter" by add music.
"WAOHFTHBNWWASWTATMHETHOMBPSUFTMLAWWSYAEWWGGA" by Glenn Case.
"Dog without Warning" by Forty Second Songs.
"Stealth You" by Nobi+Yoshi+Miki... this one is awesome, so I'll even upload it.
and "@----}------" by Doug Cheatwood.

Marcus Kellis also has a plethora of excellent short songs.

Half that album is under a minute!!

I LOVE that album... MOD was okay, but it lacked the "charm" of SOD... And who can forget the Ballad of Jimi Hendrix???

I believe that clocks in well under a minute as well!

Ditto for Sad Sappy Sucker (Modest Mouse). From which I'd suggest "Wagon Ride Return". And also Brian Wilson's "Barnyard".

There's this comp on Fat Wreck Chords called "Short Music for Short People" which has 101 punk (in spirit or genre) songs that are all under 40 seconds long. I will recommend the following songs from this CD, with the ones higher up the list being more recommended:

Wizo: "The Count"
The Vandals: "To All the Kids"
Teen Idols: "Ketchup Soup"
Unwritten Law: "Armageddon Singalong"
Bigwig: "Freegan"
The Ataris: "The Radio Still Sucks"
Dance Hall Crashers: "Triple Track"
The Living End: "Ready"
Hi-Standard: "Asian Pride"
Less than Jake: "Anchor"
Enemy You: "Bedroom Windows"
Dillinger 4: "Farts are Jazz to Assholes"
