Well, it's official.

My (recently adopted) home town of New Plymouth, Taranaki is now officially the best place on earth.

New Plymouth is one of the best places in the world to live, according to judges in a United Nations-endorsed awards.

The Taranaki city has been awarded first place and a gold award for cities of population up to 75,000 in the International Awards for Liveable Communities (LivCom), held at the weekend in Dongguan, China.

The results were released today.

Is it just coincidence that this happened 5 months after I arrived? Maybe it is, maybe it is... Or maybe there were just a lot of ladies on the judging panel...who knows.

Anyway:

QotD: Why is the place that you live so crap?

(NB: anyone from one of the other category winners: Greystones in Ireland, the Broadland District in Norfolk, England, Changxing in China and the Municipality of York in Canada, needn't answer)

..and my answer to the QOTD - for the best place on earth - it certainly bloody rains a hell of a lot here. And it's as cold as a frikking nun's nipple.

Wow, where you live IS cool...ya'll are like...a day ahead of everybody else!

QotD: Tampa rocks. I love this place. While I miss Atlanta and I do wish Tampa was a little more like it in terms of 24 hour beer sales, more 24 hour restaurants and the such, I always love seeing the Tampa skyline when I do come home.

QotD: Well I live in a town of 11K, it's not super small but it doesn't have alot of stuff for the kiddies/teenies to do. Doesn't bother me of course, I just surf on the puter and play mah gamez and I'm pretty happy with that.

DRC: Listening to the current SF now. This VERY second it's BLT's track. Not too bad. :D

Is there a Kiwi equivalent of "Oi Oi Oi"?

QOTD: Aside from the cold & wet of Portland, the only crap is some of the people here (though yes, there's assholes everywhere I know). Wife's brother is in a holding cell & we pro'lly won't see him for a deserved 7+ years. Helluva con-man, but a selfish thoughtless monomaniacal sociopathic prick. Ex-girlfriend has been harassing us on and off for the past year & a half. If I post here or on a myspace blog, she thinks I'm sending her secret messages and the wheels start spinning again. Block her email account on my server, she sends barrages of texts. Pay the money to have the cell phone number blocked, she starts sending emails to my wife. My only response (and then only when the communiques reach that particular level of dangerous froth) has been "Please do not contact me." We've had the police over to look at the evidence (emails & texts from her) and get this shit formally documented, and are filing stalking orders on her.

And now (within the last 8 hours) my wife's wetbrain ex-boyfriend is sending probing, exploratory, suggestive texts to her cell.

Everything will be dealt with legally, openly, and with as much politeness as the situation(s) require.

qotd: Calgary's alright, but it's getting too big. And more population = a lot more murders.

Also, it's really cold in the winter.

Hey, if you're a day ahead, could you get me the winning San Francisco lottery numbers before they're announced? That would be helpful.

QotD: It has its good days. It has its bad days. Rarely need to drive in a car. We have the country to run to when things get rough. Some parts are noisy and I hate that. It's pretty quiet around my house, but you know, it ain't on the list, so there ya go.

As long as it's not in the ice-cream.

Coogee Bay in Sydney has just been re-named Poogee Bay

Oddly enough, I'd heard about that already, but I get most of my news through Portal of Evil News, so.

The question was why, not where.

The why is because of the where. The root cause is because of asshole pet owners and the homeless (which are not disjoint sets).

The why is because of the where? Are you sure it isn't the other way around? On a side note, you also seem to be preoccupied with the who.

You missed a golden opportunity there to tell me that the Who were crappy, too, knowing that I disagree (note: I have dropped another one in that sentence (there I go again (oh my god, that's a threefer. I didn't know that toilet humor was so easy))).

Why would I say the Who were crappy?

Do you want me to lie, Mr. Spud?

I just want you to play the game. I don't care if you have to lie.
