Mindless Rant:
So now we are in that awkward stage after thanksgiving where there is almost a whole month before Christmas but already ppl are putting up their lights and stores are putting up all sorts of holiday facades. I like getting/giving presents as much as the next guy but the whole thing has gotten so far away from it's true meaning.

QotW: What do you want for X-Mas? :D

What I want Rone is for us to do a Christmas song together.

I'm at Thanksgiving dinner at my folks' place. We were delayed a couple days, 'cause my mom had to have her gall bladder out.

QotD: I think I've got everything I need. :)

Thanksgiving leftovers FTMFW! Image
I always make plenty of food for Thanksgiving for a few reasons. One, so everyone has plenty to eat. Two, so people can take home some leftover for a midnight munchathon or a turkey sangwich. Three, my awesome Thanksgiving potpies. I'm not much of a potpie lover, except for mine.

1. Buy as many of the two packs of frozen pie crusts as you'll need. (fuck making them from scratch)
2. Make a rue gravy from leftover turkey juice (or a can of chicken broth, what ev!)
3. Load the pie shell with EVERYTHING! Load it high with chopped up turkey, stuffing, mashed taters, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, broccoli, asparagus, corn, peas (I don't like peas in mine) etc, what ever you have. Pour the gravy over everything, give it a light fold around.
4. Put the second pie crust on top of the huge mound of T day love.
5. Moisten the edge with egg white, then crimp and flute the edges so they stay together.
6. Brush the top with melted butter and bake it until golden brown, per pie instructions. Be sure to do the traditional vent slits on the top crust, or it will rip open in an unbecoming manner.

Let it stand for 5 minutes. Cut and plate up a huge slice and pour a good amount of gravy over the slice of pie, and a scoop of cranberry sauce on the side. With a green salad, it's the shiz!

I make as many T day pot pies as I can and freeze them. I got 3 this year (2 turkey and one ham) and we ate a turkey one tonight. I couldn't wait, lol. It was so good, it inspired me to type all this shit. .....well, that and the rum. Image

Here.

I thought Thanksgiving was when stores were supposed to start putting up lights and Christmas displays. I find the awkward part to be that time between Labo day and Thanksgiving when stores are already decorating for Christmas.

QOTD: iPod Classic 120G

qotd: I want to be surprised with something that I like and which I didn't know I needed before. Generally if I actually want something I'll just buy it.

QOTD: Good monitor speakers.

@Fluf. I know something that you'd like that I bet you don't have. These. I was surprised with a pair last Christmas and I love them!

Man, did you fuck that up, BLT. Now that he knows about them*, he can just go buy them. You're supposed to go buy them yourself and put them in the mail to him, before he finds out that they are out there.

*Actually, it would be pretty unlikely that he would be unaware. He either already has some, or has no need for them. Still, it would be a thoughtful gift.

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. But you knew that, you were just being a smart ass.

Was that before or after it was a subversion of a Pagan fertility festival?

He's only a $29.95 friend at this point. Those things are around 300 bux!. He'd have to make me roasted green beans and a sangwich before I sprung for them Benjamins.

No, I was genuinely curious as to what you thought xmas was all about.
You should research it a bit.
- What fluffy said is correct, for one. Watch 'Zeitgeist'. (It's available for free download, just google it)
- Also, *if* Jesus of Nazareth was a real person (oddly enough, there is not one single bit of historical evidence to lend credence to his existence... other than the bible, of course. Google that, too), then he was almost certainly not born in December. Shepherds were out with their flocks at night, remember? Pretty cold to be out camping at that time of year.
- This Jesus guy, if he existed, said something to the effect of "Don't remember my birth, because a baby knows nothing. Remember my sacrifice instead." (paraphrased, of course) So why do you celebrate his birth? You're disobeying him!
- All that aside, what does the birth of your Christ have to do with decorated trees, exchanging gifts, holly, (pagan fertility rituals) and Santa Claus? (old German demon folklore)

Your reply is eagerly awaited.

Oh, and while we're keeping score:
Billy's Little Trip wrote:rue gravy
Street gravy?

You're aware that a roux is a cooked mixture of butter and flour (mesclun de beurre et farine, non?), while rue is the word for street (or perhaps an evergreen shrub), right? AND YES, there is a difference in pronunciation. Yes, the x is silent. As is the e. But ou and u do not have the same vowel sound, JERK. No lulz jk that sounds like a great pie.

In years past, I've made a Thanksgiving pizza on the day after. Gravy instead of pizza sauce, turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce RIGHT ON TOP OF IT, and the only thing other than heat that's really necessary to turn a piece of dough into a great pizza, GRATUITOUS AMOUNTS OF CHEESE (or BEAUCOUP DE FROMAGE as they say in France).

Well - BLT will certainly roux the day he confused his fat and flour mixtures. On Oatsey's watch!

And yes - we are all aware Xmas is Jesus's birthday. He was the King of the Jus. Jus is a bit like roux too I believe.
