The fish that inspired my "in the tank" has died. That is all.

Poor fish. :(
drc: Finally had some time between projects at work, so I took the opportunity to finally dump the piece of shit that is Windows and go back to Linux. It helps that now Linux finally has at least a semblance of utility when it comes to configuring multiple displays on a laptop. Sadly I still had to use my Mad UNIX Skillz to get it done, but oh well.
I do still need Windows for a few things but I can just run those under VMWare or the like (and conveniently enough I already have a VM image with the stuff I need).
A note, however, that while Kubuntu (and KDE4) looks like a good idea, it really is crap (especially for monitor configuration, but really the whole UI is a horrible trainwreck). Base Ubuntu/Gnome is less crappy. I'll probably end up switching to Xfce eventually but in the meantime I guess Gnome isn't too horrible.
So right now I'm getting all my important tools and such reinstalled.

Cool, Fluffy! I made the switch a little over a year ago, and now the only thing I still use Windows for is recording.
Took the three kidlets in for neutering today, but the vet (who, it should be noted, agreed to the procedure before I took them in) decided that they were too young to be neutered. Then she charged me $150 for the consultation. What's up with that.

Sorry about your fish, Jeff. When's the funeral?

Yeah, I started out in Linux at work, but then the Linux toolchain for our embedded platform went away, so I had to switch to Windows. Then there were enough complaints about the shittiness that the Linux version came back (although it's officially "unsupported"), but unfortunately this is the first chance I've had since then to switch back to Linux.
God damn Windows was pissing me off. Don't get me wrong, it's decent for gaming, and I still have to run it under a VM for a few things, but as a whole it's just irritating.
(And of course, at home I just use a Mac.)

You're getting ripped off. She might not have known how young they were over the phone or your description might not have been dead on but $150 for nothing is a complete rip-off. I'd call and see if they could knock that down. It might just be a 'standard price' generated by an arbitrary calculating system entered by a nail filing ditz at the front desk.
Or... they could just be ripping you off.

Oh yeah, they ripped me off. She weighed them and called it an "examination." Still, she's one of only two vets in the area who knows what a degu is, and the other one was even more expensive, so I guess that's that.

If you paid by credit card, you can dispute the charges.

The other thing you can do if you paid by credit card is to put dogshit in their letterbox. You can also do that if you didn't pay by credit card. Or degushit. Degushit! - There's a bandname!

I'm pretty sure a vet will already have plenty of dogshit to go around.

Now that's thinking inside the letterbox.

If I dispute the charge, the vet will find out, and they won't want to take care of our degus anymore.
It sucks, but I need a vet to neuter them, and in case something else happens. I don't like that she weighed the babies, called it an examination, and charged me $150 for it, but that same vet literally saved Aylee's life a couple of months back. That's one bridge it won't do me any good to burn.
*sigh*

So talk nicely to the vet.
Say, "Excuse me, but I don't think it's fair that I was charged $150 for such a minimal consultation."
Grow a freaking pair, already.

Wow, I can't believe someone who lovingly raises tiny mice lacks assertiveness.
