Rattlesnake Reviews

Writing on first listen, late last night -

Clubs - I feel like I kinda have the joke after the first verse/chorus. The arrangement doesn't quite sustain the litany of cliche's, perhaps it could have been trimmed. You might be entertained by a similarly themed song called "The Axe Murderer Song" by Camper van Beethoven. I like certain elements of this a lot (the red shirt reference, for instance and the chorus is a great change-up), but the whole doesn't quite pay all the way off for me. Good -

Tungsten chic - genuinely hard to listen to, stopped at 1:24 sorry. Thanks for Playing

the test - hmm a song titled Rattlesnake about a song titled Rattelsnake blues, hmmm. A little boring. I like some parts of the aesthetic, but got a little bored anyway. On first listen I don't get it, but a lot of it sounds nice. OK

Quooons - really? Spoken word with that chorus? I wish I had more to say in the way of review. But in a way I'm not sure what you were going for. Stopped at 2:13. Thanks for playing.

Steve - Ok, I can't be totally objective here, but I just wanted to giggle right off. The verse is classic Steve changes. Why a sax solo? why not, I guess. Just doesn't seem like a very snake instrument to me. Is the "heat seeking" thing supposed to be a Spinal Tap reference? Nice high note at the end. Good -

Rone - It seems like this is supposed to be music about rhythm, but none of the rhythms line up - which I feel is quite problematic. I think whether you're playing chords or not is secondary to whether you can make the pieces of the song line up with one another. I tend not to like songs that are about themselves. The song is a little like poison sounds if that is what you were going for. Thanks for playing.

R Mosquito - Ok for some reason I find this very cool. There a lot of subtle elements working for you here whether you meant them or not. I don't mind the clipping tracks, but I wish the song itself wasn't clipping so much. the length serves it. Good +

Quimby - I almost stepped on a snake just like this one night. I didn't kill it. It was night, too. An amazing memory I almost wrote this song about - but chose not too. But about the song - I thought it started nicely and ended a little campy for my tastes. but pretty well done for what it is. Not a fan of the Recipe recitation, which also highlights the repetition of the music in a way not noticed when you're singing. Good -

Paco - sweet slide sucks one in. good allegory tune. Ok ,when someday we rock together - we put this one on the set. "lance me" literally made me LOL. Fun tune. Good!

oddb0d - nice texture change - reminds me a little of the Eels at around 30 seconds. another good one getting into the chorus. Nice melody work there as well. The bass bit is thumping a little to hard on my headphones, for what it's worth. Nice structure and stuff. perhaps a smidge long. Good +

Meatknob - How many band names have you got? ripping solos. Great delivery as always. Not sure I get it. OK +

Manatee Matinee - the unison gets a bit difficult. not sure what to say. Stopping at 2:17. thanks for playing.

Make Spoons... - There's a vibraslap sound. Oh, at 1:36 there are words. That's a little long to wait in this context. Feel the heat? ehh - stopping at 2:30. Thanks for playing.

hell yeahs - I like the nuances of arrangement here. The mix is quite dark. The song itself is not grabbing me and I think the fragmentation of it is helping to create that effect. "Even booze could not be blamed" is a good line. Ok

Heine - 6 minute epic? The music isn't selling it, which I think is pertinent here. Tuneful and nice, but I'm concerned about the length. - causing me to skip forward. I like the re-used chorus idea. Ok

Ford's Theatre Disaster - I like your instinct for melody. Overall the song is also not grabbing me. I'm not sure I'm getting the chorus in the context of the rest of the song. but it's also hard to make out many of the words ok

Elaine diMasi - I like the opening word work. This all a bit too loose. I think you should forgo some the arrangement for the sake of the song, if you know what I mean. I don't know if you know Christine Lavin, but some of this reminds me of some of her work, I bet you'd enjoy it. Some neat ideas here, but sometimes I feel it's working a little too hard at being unconventional. The guitar solo surprises me. I enjoy your vocal layering a lot. Good -

DuTova - I enjoy this groove and delivery I feel like there is a little Talking Heads here. I feel the title connection is a bit week. Ok

Corn on the Cob - Rockin the socks off. I want t hear the vox better. Without more legible vocals I just can't vote for this. but damn the overall sounds seductive and bitchin'. Too bad in ain't guitar-groove fight. But then boltoph would have beat Josh woodward anyday, anyway :-) I want to be at the legendary live at Fillmore West performance of this. Good -

Coder - oh a song about Davy Crocket (or is it the Crocodile hunter?) I appreciate a good story song, but the story is not especially engaging.

Chadderandom - Clearly you want this to sound like this. I'd love for you to explain your guitar tuning approach. until you do, I am going to assume you don't have one. Do you choose to be out of tune on purpose, Why? I'd be happy to re-listen to your work after hearing why, because there doesn't seem to be any context for it. Is it just to be weird or different?

BLT etc.... - Ahh, king of the songs I was hoping wouldn't be in the fight, but well done.

Attention all units - nice arrangement. very pretty. Interesting words and changes. nice all around. Good +

If you think its clear I want the sound I've achieved, why would you assume I have no approach to obtaining that sound? Do you think no tuning takes place or that I just randomly turn the tuning pegs and I'm like, "lol, done!" hoping for the best, without a process? That would end up with a lot more dead flat notes or a lot more dissonance and, to me, theres just the right amount of dissonance.

That cacophony you hear, it doesn't just happen, I go searching for it to fit my needs at the time. And what I do feels more real and honest for myself. I have a dissonance in my soul and I am kind of weird, so I don't have to try to be anything. That sounds ridiculous but all I'm saying is that I feel what I make and I make what I feel and I know what I'm doing when I do it.

I'm not out of tune on purpose, per se, thats just how it works out. But I'm not sure what knowing whether I have a method to the madness or not achieves. I mean, either you like it or you don't, whats more to get than that?

Yes, good point. I guess what I meant to say is that after several submissions that have this aesthetic, it must be an overall aesthetic you like and yet, it is not clear to me as a listener whether you are achieving it by design or haphazardly. It sounds to me like you are saying it is a bit of both. You know what you like when you hear it, and that is what you are doing.

So my question about the way your instruments are tuned I guess was along the line of - are you choosing that tuning or are did you have an out-of tune instrument and say "oh that's kind of a cool sound." Again - from your explanation it sounds like a little of both.

I don't have anything against alternate tuning approaches - I just can't seem, as a listener to hear how this is any different than an out of tune instrument, if that makes sense.

You suggest in your response that you have a process - I'd love to hear more about it - genuinely. Some alternative tuning approaches I enjoy very much, those based on eastern systems, the equal hertz approach of a guy called Harry Partch, A guitarist named Eugene Chadbourne - so I'm not just railing against lack of convention here, my ears just aren't hearing what yours are.

Feel free to answer by PM if we're getting off track here.

Yes, it does - I like the crazy guitaring. But it still doesn't save the song for me.

BTW - my 5-year-old is having a great time dancing to this!

Paco Del Stinko wrote:Attention All Units I was wondering who/what the song is about and certainly wouldn't mind if you explained.
In the early '90s I had recurring nightmares involving serpents (hence the lyrics, "They're stuck in neverland, coiled up in neverland).
These nightmares were so bad I had to stay away from snakes. Now this really bothered me considering I was one who had snakes as pets, worked at a pet shop dealing with reptiles on a daily basis etc.
Long story short, a friend of a friend introduced me to a "white witch", or whatever they are called these days, and she informed me that the dreams are a good thing. They are a sign that I was about to embark on some very powerful knowledge (Lyrics: "They will show you what's forbidden").
Even before I had visited this person, it had already commenced (the knowledge). I had met some of the most important people in my life, thus far, during the 90s/early 2000s and I have never been the same as far as my outlook on life in general.
Thankfully the dreams have ceased and once again, i can wrap a big boa around my neck while jamming on guitar 8) .

Thanks to everyone who has reviewed!

Well, thats depressing.
Ross wrote:are you choosing that tuning or are did you have an out-of tune instrument and say "oh that's kind of a cool sound." Again - from your explanation it sounds like a little of both.
I want to just say yes thats exactly it because my explanation will probably sound stupid but its more along the lines of trying to choose a tuning that works for chords I have in mind that would make them fit closer to my aesthetic while still sounding like those chords and if it doesn't work out in the way I thought it would before I started, I start evaluating what I can get from what I've been trying and will settle for a "thats kind of a cool sound, I guess I'll go with that instead" and sometimes thats better... well, I mean, obviously, since what I thought I wanted sounded wrong to me but it sometimes sounds better, going with the flow of whats working, then what I had originally been thinking of. Better than, you know, the dissonant chords in my head that couldn't be achieved.

Most depressing about this is that this weeks song is exactly the song I pictured in my head. Well, in terms of what we're discussing, but I'm still not sure it got the full proper ending but the ending went well enough I wasn't too bothered by it. So, yeah, the only thing I hear wrong with that song is that maybe its missing an extra fully realized ending harmonica blow. Well, maybe not the only thing but my issues are small minor things.

I've only heard a little of Eugene Chadbourne and it was long time ago, there's a lot of stuff out there, I've never had any idea where to start, what would you suggest I listen to, to hear what kind of weird I should've been going for?
Billy's Little Trip wrote:Cool, Shush. I'm glad Paco asked you to explain.
That explanation sure makes me want to actually pay attention to that song. I listened to most of the songs, all except for three, over the course of last weekend and just wrote stuff down, now I'd feel bad posting the reviews for some of them after a few of the reponses in this thread, particularly Shush's because I couldn't get past the dashboard confessionaliness of the sound of that song to actually pay attention to anything going on in it and I tried three times, well, two, the third time I couldn't really deal and shut it off about 10 seconds in.

Why doesn't it sound as awesome as the lyrical content?

First impressions.

Attention All Units: Eh. Production is awesome. I want to like the song, but I'm too indie I guess.
BLT etc: I love the song, no dynamics, though. Where's the thumping bass? Or the subtle drum hits? This sounds like punk Octothorpe :)
Chadderandom Abyss: Come on, man. You must have known this is horrible. I respect the 'being difficult for difficult's sake' thing, but.. Jesus. This is fucking horrible. Unlistenable.
Coder Lyte: (?) Smooth. 50sish.
Corn on the Cob: Great Production. Sabbathy at times... or ZZ Top. Yeah, ZZ Top. Loses focus half way through.
Dutova: ohman i'm at my grade 9 sockhop it's 1985 and the girl i like just asked me to dance. Seriously has an early Cars or maybe... naw, Cars vibe. Good job, if only for nostalgia-izing me back to my highschool days.
Elaine DiMasi: Debbie Harry? I like your voice, a lot. Once again, back to the 80s in my head, so.. good. The song itself is okay, too :)
Ford's Theater Disaster: Nice singin'. Not loving the song, though. You are obviously a guitar player. I suffer the same fate, dude. I understand.
Heine: Minus points for the obvious rattle sound at the start. Develops into a pretty good song. Totally reminds me of Roxy Music or something. [edit] Totally Jay Ferguson from Sloan!
The Hell fucking Yeahs: Woah, your production went up by about 16 *magnitudes* since the last time I heard you... great song. Maybe a bit too Hives? Except with a chick singing :) No points deducted though, this is good.
Make Spoons not Knives: Great intro, now DELIVER. Nope. Not what I wanted to hear. Fail.
Manitee Matine: This also takes me back to the 80s, but in a bad way.
Meatknob: First off, best band name. The song? Like... I wanna say uh, reminds me of, FUCK! Who does this remind me of? Sweet? This rocks. Too short though. I like it anyway.
Oddbod: That bridge/chorus got me in the chest. I have a feeling this will be stuck in my head for weeks. Best song of the fight so far, as far as catchiness goes. Production is superb, too. Winner! Except how it ends!
Paco del fucking Stinko: Awww yeah. I dunno why you knock your vox, I like it. Plus the guitar is almost as good as me :)
Quimby: I love whoever is singing. Please marry me. I could easily listen to you for the rest of my life.
Mosquito: OWWWWW. I LOVE THIS BUT MY EARS HURT NOW. If you guys play live, you have to be all wearing goat masks.
Rone: Dude. I like you, even though it would appear otherwise, maybe. You seem like a good guy, according to your board postings, etc. But goddamn, this song is horrible. And I mean that in the nicest way possible :)
Ross Durand: You and me go fishin' in the dark- fall in the river and smash our heads on the rocks and drown.. the end.
Steve Durand: Of course the horns are good, because that's what you do. Not loving this song, however. That's because there's no gogo dancers in my pad right now.
Styop Quoons Experience: This goes from WTF to GODDAMN THIS IS TERRIBLE.
(it just says "test_rattlesnake"): Lovely fookin song. You got me in the chest. Sounds Irish/Celtic? Okay, I like this a lot. WHo are you? Tag your damned mp3s
Sir Runcible Spoone: OWWW, PLEASE STOP THIS AT ONCE.
The Weakest Suit: I.. wanna be... Centerfield.. Wait, that bridge or chorus is awesome! I hear no bass whatsoever. Put bass in your damned songs! This is pretty good. Okay, I hear bass now, disregard that previous comment.

Wow, huge fight! It was pretty good overall, too! I would like to collab with Mosquito or Meatknob, and I want to marry the singer from Quimby, Or at least, you know, go for a coffee or something.

Attention All Units -- Solid song with fairly good singing and performance. Everything's right about this, really, but somehow I can't bring myself to enjoy it.

Billy's Little Trip featuring Spud and Paco -- I was looking forward to this one. It's about as energetic as I expected, but interesting a lot less so. The best thing in it is the guitar sound.

The Chadderandom Abyss -- Okay, it's different this time. That's worth something, I guess. I just don't know what.

coder_lyte() -- Not much going on here, is there? Nice sound, sure, but nothing exciting.

Corn on the Cob -- The vocals are a bit too weird, otherwise I like this one pretty much. Great sound and rockiness.

DuToVa -- Weird mix; vocals are all the way in the background. Generally, more punch would have been great. I like the groove in this one and the song in general. It's a bit longer than I'd have done it, perhaps, but never mind that.

Elaine DiMasi -- I like the keyboard playing. Vocals and timing are unusually sloppy. My favourite piece is the part at 1:20 ("a rattlesnake would have warned me").

Ford's Theater Disaster -- Great singing, as far as I can tell between the distortions. Personally I think the cymbals are a bit overdominant.

Heine -- Rhythm guitar and drum kit are out of sync in places. The singing could use a bit more practice, particularly the falsetto. I'm not very fond of the hard right panning on some of the vocals. Nice guitar sounds. Okay song but I think it goes on for too long.

The Hell Yeahs -- The vocals are a bit buried, but damn, this rocks! Now if only it had a bit more variation...

Make Spoons Not Knives -- The sound is pretty rock. Too much intro, though, and the vocals sound broken record-like. That's either due to too much portamento or just lots of flat singing that gradually approaches the right frequency on longer notes, I'm not sure.

Manatee Matinee -- I'm still not one who appreciates experimental/artsy music all that much, but this one is a lot more interesting than your previous submission.

Meatknob -- Drums sound rather thin. Executed well. (Short song -- short review.)

oddbod -- Tremolo overload! Otherwise the sound is great. The chorus has a certain potential of getting stuck in my ear. I may vote for this one.

Paco del Stinko -- Interesting riffs. Otherwise I feel mostly neutral about this one.

Quimby -- The guitar and bass sound is great, as is the singing. I think the harmonies are sometimes too complex for the chords. I can't think of a a better way to describe it right now.

R. Mosquito -- Isn't that a bit much clipping? Even if it's obviously intentional. Oh well, I don't really have anything to say about this one.

Rone Rivendale -- Minus points for self-reference and the drum pattern during chorus.

Ross Durand -- Again, I think the lead guitar has too much reverb (the remix is better but I'd have made it even drier). Guitar playing is great as usual. I like the overall sound, but the song doesn't distinguish itself much.

Steve Durand -- You're not really playing to your vocal strengths here but there is potential for something pretty cool there, so I can't really blame you. Keep working on this. Cool song, too. Probably a vote.

The Styop Quoons Experience F. Dr. Bean, the Rock & Roll Mexican -- Boring intro. Boring rest. I like the idea but couldn't you have made it into more?

the test -- Nice song (one of the better ones this round, for sure), but it doesn't really have a lot of excitingness.

Tungsten Chic -- Way too much clipping and way too little interestingness.

The Weakest Suit -- Nice song and, as far as I'm concerned, the best lyrics in this fight, but those vocals have that "middle in the night mustn't wake neighbours" feeling again. That detracts a lot from the song. Still, considering the competition, I guess you get a vote purely for the lyrics.

Personally, I think there have been way better fights. Votes go to oddbod, Steve Durand and The Weakest Suit this time (in pretty much this order), though none of the songs in this fight would have won against many others I've heard.

So, I have emerged
To see what you have been up to
Since it's been a while

These haiku reviews
Might not give you much insight
But, they're fun to make

-------------------------
Attention All Units
I often nitpick
About vocal quality
But, this is okay

Billy's Little Trip
Spud and Paco too?
What a great combination!
Very, very fun!

The Chadderandom Abyss
Some Songfight entries
Are just a big waste of time
You know, like this one

coder_lyte()
Lyrics are not bad
Performance a tad sloppy
But, a good effort

Corn on the cob
Corn on the kabob
Great groove, Not so great vocals
And, that's about it

DuToVa
This is quite quiet
I hear some potential here
But, I am so bored

Elaine DiMasi
Vocals are pitchy
Rhythm is off in spots, too
Some good lyrics, 'though

Ford's Theater Disaster
It kicks ass in spots
The verses trump the chorus
Vocals slightly off

Heine
Telling a story
Is a smart songwriting move
Room for improvement

The Hell Yeahs
Show 'em how it's done!
Easily the front runner
Very strong showing.

Make Spoons Not Knives
Creativity
Sure, it's good to be unique
But, where is the song?

Manatee Matinee
Why do fun band names
Almost always make music
That is not so good?

Meatknob
Love the guitar tone
And the attitude to match
This is fairly good

oddbod
I like the intro
Great sounding production, too
My favorite thus far

Paco Del Stinko
Your vocals bug me
But, I can't deny this fact:
It's one of the best

Quimby
Here's my new favorite
This review will self destruct
This is fantastic!

R. Mosquito
Delightful chaos
It's explosive, and that fits
Muddy mix and all

Rone Rivendale
So, where do I start?
This is an absolute mess
No rhythm, bad pitch

Ross Durand
I hate to say this
Never have warmed to your voice
Solid writing, 'though

Steve Durand
The horns make me smile
As they always seem to do
Work on the vocals

The Styop Quoons Experience F. Dr. Bean, the Rock & Roll Mexican
It's decent enough
For a throwaway joke song
But, still annoying

the test
Harmonies are good
Composition is boring
But, not too awful

Sir Runcible Spoone
Badly distorted
But, you probably know that
Another bad one

The Weakest Suit
This is passable
But, you're capable of more
So, challenge yourself
-------------------------

So, now that I'm done
I'll listen to Quimby now
Several times, maybe.

Clarification?
I can provide that for sure
If that's what you want

ROCK!

I finally got around to listening to the songs I didn't get to due to accidentally closing the Opera tab I opened specifically to listen to the songs, and its a lot of effort to scroll up and down to see which ones you didn't listen to when you have to come back to the page, since they re-shuffle every time you open the page. But, anyway, it feels like I started these reviews two months ago even though it was like two weekends ago.

And since I always forget to vote, I'll just say if I'm keeping the song.

Paco del Stinko - Can the intro be longer? Vocals are meh until the "She was blonde" part and then they really don't get better but they're still better than the previous section of vocals. I'm really debating listening to this song again, I want to because I think it might sound better on second listen but I'm not down with unnecessary loudness. Yeah, this is loud and not any better and I barely made it to the halfway point before deciding against my decision.

The Hell Yeahs - So, I've listened to this three times. And still have nothing to say. My head bobs occasionally, I guess? No, wait, upon 5th listen, I was able to pay attention to the vocals better. I kind of like them. And if I pay attention to them instead of the music, this is actually a pretty good song. I just can't figure out if its just that the vocals need to be brought up in the mix or if the vocals don't fit the music. No, upon 6th listen the vocals fit the music, they just need to be brought up, and since I've had to listen to this 6 times just to figure that out, I'm kind of bitter and never want to hear this song again.

Styop Quoons y Dr. Bean - It makes me smile but I'm not keeping it. Okay, I eventually laughed, so maybe on second listen, I will love everything thats going on enough to keep it. Man, I WANT to save it but I'm not sure I can. All I can do is listen to it a third time even though I didn't feel any more or less love during the second listen. Okay, thats it, I'm saving this thing, even though I'll probably never listen to it again.... on 4th listen, maybe I'll never stop listening to it. But I must continue on with the fight.

Quimby - This is cuter in a good way than I thought it'd be when I saw the lyrics. I like the vocals, I like the music, I like them together and I like that I just saved this.

Elaine DiMasi - Oh, man, I was all ready to love this song, with that beat, until the singing started now I just kind of like it. No, the vocals are good where they are and how they are, mostly. Mystery guitarist is kind of random but cool. On second listen, I want to save this but I can't.

Make Spoons Not Knives - Is that real? I meant the vibraslap, originally, but I listened to the rest of the song and now it applies to the rest of the song. Basically, what I'm saying is that this is unreal, like on a spiritual level, and I'm keeping it forever and ever. In my mp3 player. Under my pillow. And possibly in my heart. Upon second listen, maybe I don't want to marry it but I'm totally saving it.

Attention All Units - We've got a man down! I guess he's down. Thats the music of the down. WTF? I wasn't done cringing before the song ended. I guess I have to listen to it a second time so I can finish cringing. Wow, this is sensitive. I guess. I can't actually pay attention to the lyrics to know for sure. Okay, I'm done cringing but upon second play this song seems to last forever and I might start cringing again and I don't want to have to listen to it a third time to finish cringing, I might get caught in a circle of cringe. Okay, seriously, I'm going to try to listen to this a third time. No, actually, I'm not. 2 and a 10th is enough for me. And upon new lovin the lyrical content listen... I tried to pay attention to the lyrics/vocals, to maybe forget about the rest of it but the rest of it is too much and it didn't take long to turn it off.

the test - You're lonely? Did you hear the last guys music? I don't believe that you have the rattlesnake blues, charly pattons or otherwise. When the music is over, I might not mind. Thats a nice idea. Upon second listen, I've gotten use to everything there is to get use to and I think this is almost good. But its not good. I don't know what it needs to be good though. But its definitely almost good. At least its not bad. You need work on something, maybe something needs changed. Upon third listen, stop singing and start making some talkin country blues or spoken word or something like that or give yourself more of an accent when you sing. Whatever you do, do it over the top and as campy as possible. I vote more accent. Listen to King Creosote and Aidan John Moffatt and embrace accents. Maybe use an entirely different accent than the one you have. Invent a new accent. Australian and Texan and Canadian. Listen to the Big Tymers "Oh Yeah" and instead of saying oh yeah, you say "Eh!" like "I've gat un awdiyar, less naw celerbrate, eh!?" I mean, I'm just throwing things out there, man, its probably best not to take my advice since I only care about my own entertainment.

Heine - Well isn't this peppy and pretty and fluffy like a puppy made of clouds, I kind of like everything thats going on here. Not enough to keep it but I like it. If I actually vote, I'd vote for it even though its not my cup of tea. Upon second listen, I think I'll keep it because I didn't fully appreciate the bouncey new-waveishness to it.

Rone Rivendale - I think the lyrics I was making up were better than the lyrics you were singing. I mean, I'll fuck you like a bantamweight is way more entertaining, it could've been about a promiscuous fighter nicknamed The Rattlesnake. And maybe it'd only be "like" a bantamweight because he couldn't actually make weight because his only form of cutting weight was to have sex and it always worked previously but this time he just wasn't that into it, since it was the same old routine, you know? Maybe thats Gina Carano's problem since she never makes weight.

Ross Durand - I like the vocals and the lyrics but I'm not fond of that guitar drilling a hole in my brain. I hope its like those summer days. I turned it down to about 30% on second listen just to see if its as good as I think it could be if the guitar was less brain piercing. And, yeah, this song could use about 70% less guitar. Maybe 50% less guitar. Definitely more than 25% less guitar. I kept getting lulled into a false sense of security and I turned it up a little at a time. So, yeah, somewhere between 50 and 25% less guitar is what this song needs. New mix version is great and I don't have to turn everything else down just to deal with that guitar, so saved.

Coder Lyte - You said you were going to use guitar for this song, so after that last song, I was kind of fearful of guitar but there is nothing to fear in this song and its just done so well and its so different from your last song that this is definitely a keeper.

Manatee Matinee - I liked parts of this, lots of parts actually, and probably didn't like the other parts just due to unnecessary loudness and those parts were enough to ruin everything, I hate the loudness war, even if this was a mild case of it. I'd prefer a quietness war.

R. Mosquito - Uh... no. Okay, maybe at 30% volume. Well, its at an appropriate volume now. I'm sending a rattlesnake to bite you on your ass as I type this. Maybe I'd like this if I weren't listening via headphones. And this were a few years ago. But probably not.

The Weakest Suit - When it first started I expected something different from reading the lyrics but I guess it was okay then it picked up a little but at some point I stopped paying attention and forgot I was supposed to be listening to something and then it picked up again but it still wasn't what I expected and there really isn't anything wrong with this song, I just don't want to listen to it again.

DuToVa - Whatever this is trying to be, I think Heine did what it should be doing better. On second listen the bassline tricked me into thinking I might be wrong but, no, the rest of the song starts and I was right the first time. That is a pretty nice bassline though. Everything else around it needs changed though. Or maybe just the vocals. And maybe the vocals don't even need changed, this song might be good and I just don't like it.

oddbod - I think I might like whats underneath the unnecessary loudness. Perfect volume at 50%. I definitely like the warbliness, this song is actually kind of good. Too bad I can't keep it. Unless I do what Teplin does and post-produce other peoples songs after saving them, although he makes things more reverby, I just need things less loud. Thats a lot of effort though for someone elses song.

Billy's Little Trip, Spud & Paco - The loudness on this track is loud because its supposed to be, maybe not necessarily that loud but its not bothersome, other than that, the vocals remind me of Green Jello and thats kind of cool but I'm not sure it has much else going for it. I mean, the vocals are really good on this and the lyrics fit them and I want to like it enough to save it, at least, even if I don't. But I bet its already saved in Spuds pants anyway. And I bet there's some Green Jello in Spuds pants. And there's something bothersome in Spuds pants. Actually, if there is, I bet the spud in spuds pants has eyes that roll too, that would be pretty bothersome, I imagine, for whoever went in to get better acquainted with it anyway.

Meatknob - I listened twice and forgot to pay attention both times. Third time, its done well but generic, it sounds like something I shouldn't have been able to be distracted by other things while listening to but apparently not. Actually I guess thats what generic is.

Steve Durand - I can definitely get behind some mariachi rockabilly. There are so many bands that made a blueprint for this song but this song laughs at all those blueprints, throws them away and builds itself into something I'm going to save.

Ford's Theater Disaster - Least cool song on a new installment of Rough Trade Shops Rock-n-Roll compilation, it feels like I should be able to headbang to this but I don't think I can. There are sections of this that feel like they should sound different than they do, different from the rest of the song. I think maybe it was from mastering the whole song the same way instead of using different compression on different sections differently. Maybe this song would be cooler if it used the right compression for the right sections or maybe no compression on the sections that shouldn't have compression because there are sections of this song that sound like they shoudn't be compressed.

Corn on the Cob - Whoa. Uh... this is a badass song musically. If you wanted a jokey gravel voice, I could've done a way better jokey gravel voice... well, when it comes to covers of "Hillbilly Stomp" I kill the Billy Gibbons part at least. In some places the guy actually sounds like he might be handicapped. So, I can say in all honestly, this song is kinda retarded. But still badass. The retardedness makes me not want to save it though because while the badassness is badass, the retardedness is really retarded. And not in a good way.

Tungsten Chic - Hey, loudness. I'm not turning this down. Or listening to it a second time. Actually the monstery voice is kind of cool. But everything is loud and its not cool enough to overcome that. And its kind of short anyway, so whatever.
