Team Fortress 2 (or other Steam games)

Does anyone here play TF2 (on PC) or other Steam shooters? I would love to get a circle of Steam friends going, then kill you. In TF2. And Day of Defeat: Source.

I have occasionally played TF2 with some friends. You can find me at HeuristicsInc, but I don't play that much at all... more often Guild Wars.

I play -- don't laugh -- Counter-Strike: Source. Not much, though, and not against human players. I prefer to play with people I know at least a bit and I don't know any who play CS:S.

Oh yeah, I forgot something important. Look up 'kizofieva' if you want to reach me through Steam.

Also, while I don't prefer it, there's nothing embarrassing about playing CS:S.

Uh, I'm pretty sure that was right. Weird. Anyway, I added you and joined the "Song Fight!" (sic) group.

*sigh*

I bought The Orange Box about a year ago, but never did get TF2 working on my computer... Or, in fact, any of the games, even the original Half Life 2. Had to play Portal on my then-roommate's computer.

If I could find my Windows CD, I would just wipe that whole partition, reinstall the OS, and start from scratch, but even that would be a long shot. Every single source I can find tells me that my computer ought to be able to run everything on the Orange Box without a problem, but all of the games have persistent program-stopping errors.

That's $50 I'll never get back.

Hello, my screen name is nyjm (yes, on Steam, too) and I'm a Team Fortress 2 addict. I... I can't help it... I think it's the adrenaline rush... and the nostalgia (I used to pwn on TF1 back in college). I play for about 2 hours a day. Every day. It's sad.

Honestly, though, I just started about two-three weeks ago after having the Orange Box for more than a year (best.video-game.release.ever.) and I was pleasantly surprised at the average level of maturity. I remember the days of TF1 when it devolved pretty quickly into flame wars (and that was without mics). Counter Strike seemed to stick there mostly, and even HalfLife 2 Deathmatch. So, I was reticent to dip into the pool of teenage jerks who could just roast me at any class and then mock me mercilessly.

But, no, for all I've been playing, I've only seen two moments when things became intolerable. In one instance, the moderator put the kibosh on the jerk's mic and in the other, I just left. I suppose it helps that I'm a little picky about the servers I play on (IO and ZeroBullshit are really good), but I've encountered a surprisingly high level of courtesy (people who actually thank medics over the mic) and desire for teamwork. (One reason I used to love TF1 was that my entire dorm suite would play together; we'd just open the doors between our rooms and have a heavily coordinated four-person strike force.) People have given me genuinely helpful tips and I've often seen a fostered sense of community. So, I've been really enjoying it.
