I'm not sure if chord progressions keep anybody up at night, but if you're ever in a creative ditch, this might just spark a start. Worst case scenario: it gives you something that sucks, and in the process of modifying the progression, you realize how creative you were feeling anyway.

Chord Progression Generator
I was bored (but not drunk) today, and I tried a funny idea. I put my calculator to octal mode, and punched in a generic chord progression- I IV V. Then I squared it, and because octal mode won't give me any digits higher than 7, I got a viable chord progression out of it. (23731) Lo and behold, I IV V II III VII III I sounds kinda nice.

Re: Chord Progression Generator
It won't make sense unless you think about your chord progressions numerically.

Re: Chord Progression Generator
Of course, you get the root note, but I suppose you plugged in majors, minors, 7ths, and so on more or less arbitrarily? I dunno, I couldn't get your progression to sound decent when I was playing it, so clearly I was doing something wrong.

Re: Chord Progression Generator
Thanks man, that's pretty cool. Added to the favorites list. It doesn't, however, seem to have anything as meaty as a III-VI-II-V-I. Kinda funny, now that I think about it, since I don't think I've ever written a song with more than 2 chords.
