tuneflow suspends monthy tournament

tuneflow.com used to have a monthly tournament that resembled songfight. they would give four titles at the beginning of each month and host them at the end of the month for voting. in recent months participation had declined significantly while songfight has remained at an average of around 23 entries per fight since i started just short of two years ago.
if you are unfamiliar with tuneflow, here's the lowdown on how it sucked:
you could not listen to all the songs for one title. you would randomly get a song to listen to based on the genres you checked off that you like. then you had to fill out a rediculously long critique of the song. then you could rate it. because the reviews were not publicly posted, a lot of abusive reviews were received, leading to lots and lots of bitching and fighting, which seemed to be the opposite of the spirit of the contest. problems brought up on the message boards would not be addressed by anyone involved with the website, and it seemed that everyone was frustrated and disappointed by the experience. they also gave out cash prizes for each winning song. this lead to people accusing others of creating ghost accounts to sabotage certain artists' songs. basically, it was a mess. at first, i was really excited about a different songwriting challenge, i even wrote and recorded songs for all four songs in july, august, and september, but due to the shittiness of how the website was run, and the shittiness of the attitude of the artists involved, i could never commit to placing any music on the site. maybe some of the tuneflow artists will migrate over here.

That is a shame.
I did a few songs there a while ago, it didn't seem that bad. I preferred SF!, but it was always nice to check out the other one occaisionally.

Hey, same story with me, man. I wrote like 4 songs for Tuneflow, but I just couldn't handle the bitchiness on the boards.

i liked your one song about traveling (i think it had a train beat) a lot.
tuneflow has no artist search function on their site that i can find, so even if i wanted to buy it i would have to try to figure out what genre you dubbed yourself and page through the artists 5 at a time until i found you. tuneflow sucks.

Thank you.
That was probably "
One Foot Out The Door" - which by a very strange coincidence, just happened to be exactly the same song that I sent to Glenn and Niv for their "Purple Reign" project.

Anyway - I guess I never took a huge amount of interest in Tuneflow or noticed how crap it may have been - it was just another place to go and get a song title to work with. Note, I do recall that most of their titles were quite boring and not very good prompts to get me started - hence I didn't do songs there very often

looks like tuneflow is finally dead. they removed their forum so people can't complain anymore about how bad it was. that just goes to show, when there is money involved, people get real bitchy and sneaky. i also noticed that none of these songwriters seem to have been involved in the tournaments for the fun of songwriting because none of them migrated here to hone their craft. i guess if there's no money in it, it's not worth doing. true artists.

I am completely unsurprised by this turn of events. Remember that Tune Flow was started because some stupid SEO/MLM marketing fucktard came to Song Fight, made suggestions about how this site could be monetized, and was told to go politely fuck off. He then started Tune Flow to show Song Fight how it should "really be done."
Long live Song Fight.

Probably everyone except JB would be surprised as how often I have to defend our decision NOT to monetize the site...

I'm not surprised at all. Every time I describe Song Fight! to someone, the first thing they ask is if there's a prize.
I do think you guys would be totally justified in running some small non-evil ads on the main page sidebar (Project Wonderful or the like) to help cover the hosting costs, though. But that's just an incidental.

or: online retailers (for example Musician's Friend, zZounds) have referral programs where you earn a small commission for the amount of click-throughs that result in sales from their websites from ads on yours. Most people here are buying the stuff anyway, and I'm sure none of us would mind getting there through a link from Song Fight! if it would benefit the running of this place.

Allow me to continue this conversation...
"So why are you doing it, then?"
"I'm making music, learning how to play a fuckload of instruments, figuring out how to record and produce songs, playing live shows, making dubious contacts around the world. So... how was [insert vapid tv show title that you don't watch] last night, hmmm?"

So, there IS a prize.

And you don't even have to declare it on your tax returns! Too bad it's such a gimme-now/immediate gratification/stay tuned for the next commercial world out there.
Really glad I finally have a partner who gets the "makin' stuff" need/drive. And enjoys it, too (for the most part anyway, heh).

You could sell porn on the site. Everyone love porn.
Actually, get rid of the whole "song" thing and make it "pornfight".
Each week, Deepthroat (that name can stay), posts a "title" - ususally just a random vegetable or such - and competitors send in pictures or videos of themselves inspired by the title. People could still write a song for the sound track if they wanted - but it would have to use a wah-wah pedal.
You can have that idea for free. I've got a million of em.
