Second day of work training today. I got to take a look at the database system near the end of the day, and it runs on freaking DOS. Oh... boy.

QotD: What in your life is in dire need of an upgrade?

My desk! ZOMG, I have been using this laminated particle board second hand bullshit for, seriously, over ten years.

I'd love something that'd pneumatically switch from sitter to stander with the flip of a lever. Optional, switchity doo dah speaker shelves.

Heather is going to be home with Subway any minute! Five minutes after that, I will be pregnant with a poorly-chewed Subway baby.

also, i recorded a song today.

DRC: with another three injections the dental filling worked out this time. As I understood it, the third injection went directly into the root of the tooth. Fun stuff. Also I spent money on... see QotD.

QotD: The part of my brain that allows me to change habits and stuff like that. Upgrade is in progress.

My computer is in desperate need of an upgrade. Every Pro Tools session I make nowadays ends up pushing my computer beyond its limits, which leaves me unable to accomplish the things that I need/want to.

QotD: My home desktop. Money's been tight enough for years that it hasn't been a priority. The thing was current hardware more than ten years ago. Were it not for Linux, no modern software could run on the poor thing. As it is, I don't bother with fancy GUI interfaces if I can help it. It still wasn't that bad -- and in fact I could do useful things with it -- until one or both of the hard drives died. (Or possibly the IDE controller on the motherboard.) Now it is waiting the day that I have time to investigate and revive it.

I'd be a sad man were it not for my work laptop.

We need a serious upgrade to our studio computer. It is a Windows 2000 machine purchased in 2000 as a software testing machine, so the setup was minimal even for the day. The sound card was upgraded in the early days of Octothorpe (2002?), and it now has firewire, but I don't think there is anything I can do about the latency due to low memory, slow hard drive, and other issues. I have to manually align every track immediately after recording it to keep a session together.

Recently, the power supply went out, so it is completely non-functional at the moment. Couldn't record if I wanted to. I think it is trying to tell me something (no, not THAT!)

SPUD

oh, also my income.

Another one for desktop computer. Or more specifically, I need to figure out what I want to do regarding my monitor and using my laptop more (they are interrelated because my laptop is one of the fancy new MacBook Pros with the DisplayPort connector, and my monitor could use an upgrade so I'd rather get something which does both DisplayPort and DVI, and ideally something larger than 1920x1200 but the next size up is 2560x1600 which is just insanely huge, not to mention expensive, and has even more of a connector issue).

Also, my lifestyle could use an upgrade.
