hahohee, but seriously folks, I'd say either food poisoning, food reaction or some sort of salmonella thing. Do you eat much peanut butter, Mark?

No, didn't eat anything out the ordinary... it's like my digestive system stopped working completely. And I don't have any food allergies that I know of.
The oatmeal seemed to have helped. I had to force myself to eat it, because I was *not* hungry at all, but hadn't eaten anything for probably 28 hours. I wasn't hungry today either, but just ate a grilled cheese sandgwich and I can feel my guts churning a bit. I'm hoping this is a good thing.

Re: 2509
Mark, those are symptoms like a peptic ulcer. Then if you have an ucler with a food bacteria, it gets worse. Some bacterias can actually form a protective coating against your stomach acid, allowing it to thrive and spread.
Check out these ulcer symptoms I copied from a med site:
What are the symptoms of an ulcer?
Abdominal discomfort is the most common symptom. This discomfort usually
* is a dull, gnawing ache
* comes and goes for several days or weeks
* occurs 2 to 3 hours after a meal
* occurs in the middle of the night—when the stomach is empty
* is relieved by eating
* is relieved by antacid medications
Other symptoms include
* weight loss
* poor appetite
* bloating
* burping
* nausea
* vomiting

Re: 2509
Something strange my Mom told me as a kid about getting stomach problem. Her mother would have them suck on a coin. I never really thought much about it until I got older and then had questions. Ok, I know that metal sulfates can kill bacteria. She grew up on a farm and farmers give copper to cows and horses for stomach problems. Coin? Copper, silver or gold? And suck it for how long? And I hope you wash it really good first.
But theoretically it makes sense....well, unless you accidentally swallow the coin. Then you have a whole new set of problems.
Antacids have metal sulfates in them, so instead of sucking a coin, eat some Rolaids or Tums. See if that helps.
edit: Just looked it up. Rolaids and Tums use calcium and Magnesium hydroxide. So I guess that's not the same as heavy metals. AhHA!
edit2: BUT, all calcium carbonates are derived from sources where trace amounts of lead occur naturally. Ah HA!
edit3: Mylanta uses aluminum sulfate. aaaAHHAAA!

Not to spoil the fun or anything, but these kinds of symptoms lists are what ends up being the danger of internet self-diagnosis. It's important to do a differential diagnosis. In fact, it's almost always a good idea to see a doctor who has proper diagnostic tools.Billy's Little Trip wrote:Check out these ulcer symptoms I copied from a med site

Re: 2509
I agree with you to a point, but on the other hand, every time I've been to the doctor in the last 10 years, he's prescribed me antibiotics. I initially just stopped getting the prescription filled, and then stopped going to the doctor. If it doesn't kill me, it'll only make me stronger, right? And if it *does* kill me, hey, we're all gonna die some day.jast wrote:Not to spoil the fun or anything, but these kinds of symptoms lists are what ends up being the danger of internet self-diagnosis. This coming from a German. What the hell's up with the double s that looks like a fancy b? I thought for years the German word for 'white' was 'weib'.jast wrote:QotD: the umlaut.

Re: 2509
The sz-ligature is actually comprised of an S and a Z superimposed in a fancy way (with a few different parallel etymologies which happened to converge eventually, as is pretty common in writing systems). It just happens to look like a lowercase Greek B.Märk wrote:This coming from a German. What the hell's up with the double s that looks like a fancy b? As usual, Wikipedia has a serviceable explanation of some of the etymologies.

Yeah, I had a lady friend over the other night and she had to use the bathroom. Apparently she went through my medicine cabinet and found my google cream. She came out rather upset and told me there is no way I get to browse her yahoo. *budump bump, crash*Caravan Ray wrote:That can be painful. At least we only put umlauts where they actually belong (conveniently, we're the ones who get to decide on that).This coming from a German.jast wrote:QotD: the umlaut.

Re: 2509
I felt much better yesterday, to the point of being able to eat some dinner. And I had a couple beers, which I haven't done since Monday. This morning at like 6 am, I wake up with the aching guts, acid reflux, and high-pressure liquid faeces again. Fuck sakes. Maybe my liver is failing?Billy's Little Trip wrote:So Mark, how are you today? Stomach any better? Did you make poopies? Do tell.

Re: 2509
Sure sounds like it's the beer causing it, or rather the alc in the beer. Is the beer from the same case or whatever from the last time you drank and got sick? What happens if you eat a few tums? Have you tried to see if that neutralizes the stomach acid? Sounds like your stomach is over producing, which can and will cause an ulcer if not treated.
......or maybe you've got the cholera.
