Radio Show

Hello, songfighters. I don't know if this comes up very often, but I am a DJ on a college indie radio station WUDR (http://www.udayton.edu/~flyer-radio) from 10:00 AM until noon on Friday mornings and was wondering what people's thoughts were on playing some Songfight songs. I would of course mention the website, the artist and talk about the whole project- is this legal?

Would most people be okay with me playing their songs for the University of Dayton listeners? You'd probably be reaching 30 people tops, but it's exposure and I didn't think people would mind.

I don't know whose music I'd be using yet, so I'd have to PM individual people, but in general how do people feel about this kind of thing?

I don't speak for everyone, but I'm sure I speak for many: Free advertisement? Yes please.

(You are welcome to play my stuff, if it comes up.)

I play SF stuff on the radio all the time. Last Friday I played WreckdoM's "Say the Word," and in two weeks I'll be doing an entire show of songfight material. Which is to say, yeah, go for it man.

Putting songs up on the web at SongFight is an open invitation for people to listen to them, and I don't think many would object to people listening to them on the radio, so, yeah, go ahead!
If you play some let us know!

By all means, feel free to broadcast any of my stuff, if you deem it appropriate. It'd be great to get a heads-up if and when it happens.

Caravan Ray's Management wrote: University of Dayton! This is just the break we've been waiting for! We want Caravan Ray saturation at Dayton from now till Christmas.

...Mr Ray - the thousand dollar hookers have just arrived, and your llama's pannier has been refilled with cocaine - shall I send up the jelly now?...

Hey, we were voted in the top 22 of American's most archatecturally beautiful schools. ;o)

Thanks to everybody who replied! WUDR will appreciate your art.

the songs I chose for now

Here are the songs I picked out for the show:

Pawnbroker's Stepdaughter by Puce
I Wish I Was So Sure by R. Mosquito
Run Faster by Deshead
Les Anchois by Pipefist
Lucky Man by Amominominous
Gutter by Dylan
Need Stilts by Glen and Rachael
More than Soup by High Density
The Spirit World by Josh Woodward
Cosmic Confirmation by White Hat
Look Good in Black by Marcus
Space Cadet by Melody Generator
DDD by Redcar
More Than Soup by Starfinger
aaand
Need Stilts by A Kid Named Ace

And there are more radio shows coming up. I plugged the website about a jillion times. Seriously. A JILLION. It's hard because there are a lot of other songs (such as Lonbobby's) that I'd love to play but couldn't get away with on an indie show. Maybe once I've been with the station a bit longer.

Tune in some time if you feel bored some Friday morning 10:00 AM - noon at http://www.udayton.edu/~flyer-radio

It's a good time.

hahaha. awesome. I'm totally college radio material.

p.s. that means I have absolutely no problem with being played on the show. if anybody asks tell them glitterandtwang.org is my site. natch. it's also linked on my artist page in the archive sorted by artist.

How is <i>anything</i> on songfight something you couldn't get away with playing on an indie show? We're all indie!

Word. I didn't really take this on board first time I read it, but it's a sad reflection of the 'You don't need loud guitars to work here, but it really really helps' maxim to 'alternative' radio.

Not that I am sour that I'm not on the list! Or that I can use the Lonbobby Excuse - hahahaha!

I totally agree. And it sucks, but the people we're listening to are the indie-type-kids who love the guitars and people singing and such... but think of it this way, I plugged the hell out of Songfight.org, which means people may come here and download your music!

Yay for college radio. We are a land of unbounded mediocrity, trying to shine in a sea of dead air. Or something.

any publicity is good publicity.
unfortunately, i don't think my music would fit into a normal college radio station rotation (heh, we'll have a dalmation plantation).

You can play anything of ours that you like, but what you are most likely to like is "<a href="http://www.spewgrass.com/music/sampler/ ... Skyline</a>". It does well on the college radio circuit.

Dunno if I'm indie enough but you can try
Heuristics Inc. - Soft Orange Glow
as the most indie of mine. Woo! One vote!

However, I do highly recommend for the indie crowd: Glorious Mono - Fire Bomb which I had nothing to do with.
