Hit Record: By Andrew Reist

when I'm looking at you now
It's hard for me even to shout
Cause in your eyes there's doubt
Do you even wanna be here at all?

Got to let my heroes out
Never thought I could live without you now
But in your eyes there's doubt
Wake up and smell the flowers it's over now
It's over now

I hope that you feel ashamed
Cause your new gig is a total disgrace
Take your time in this place
But pack your bags
Cause we want a new face
A new face

(metalish break)

When I hear of new release
I'm just the first one out the door
But your new game's a piece
And I won't play it anymore

Got to let my heroes out
Never thought I could live without you now
But in your eyes there's doubt
Wake up and smell the flowers it's over now
It's over now

I hope that you feel ashamed
Cause your new gig is a total disgrace
Take your time in this place
But pack your bags
Cause we want your old face

(latin/clappy bridge) - change of genre

Selling out
Never felt so good before this one
You're in hell
Cause an artist'll feel it for this one

Selling out
Never felt so good before this one
You're in hell
Cause an artist'll feel it for this one

(heavy break)

note: the metalish and heavy breaks were written into the song as a part of the challenge, but I feel as though the latin/clappy bridge is ultimately what fulfills it.

The song never explicitly says 'hit record', but it is entirely based off my disgust at my favorite artists selling out to make hit records. Bonus points if you can guess which artist I was thinking of while writing it!

Nope, but they would definitely fit into the group of artists I'm directing it at. Should I give you a hint? w

Hit Record - Frankie Big Face

I don't want a hit record

I don't want to see the
Top of the charts for a couple of weeks
A song that's often heard but never speaks
A tug on the heart and the tapping of feet
Is really not enough for me

I don't want a hit record

I don't want to be
Taken for a ride by a forty-five
Then trampled under foot like a sorry B-side
The flavor of the week may keep most satisfied
But it's really not enough for me

I don't want a hit record

So many lives lost to stadium rock
My mom succumbed to 80s synth pop
New country swallowed my sister alive
I caught my father doing the hand jive

I don't want to find myself
At the bottom of an FM rut
I'd rather spend some time with my deepest cut
A familiar friend with a voice I can trust
Is really everything I need
And that's good enough for me

I don't want a hit record
