Anybody up for a neew coverfight?
The theme is Musicals...............cover a song from a musical, simple as that
if only a few are interested maybe we can limit the covers to just one musical.
so, anybody interested?
So far we have:
J$ with 'Somewhere' from West Side Story & 'Tomorrow Belongs to Me' from Cabaret
Steve Durand with King Herod's Song from JC Superstar
Rinkydink with Everything's Alright from Jesus Christ Superstar
2Dogs with Heaven on their minds from Jesus Christ Superstar
Paco Del Stinko with This Jesus Must Die from JCS

Would 'A Mighty Wind' count as a musical?

Yes, I would be up for this. I would prefer not to do all the songs from a single musical, as I hate all musicals except the ones I love, if you see what I mean. probably not.
The 'single musical' exceptions I would happily participate in would be 'Cabaret' and 'West Side Story'.

Having a 4.y.o daughter - I am quite familiar with many of the animated works of Mr Disney. My current favourite is Everybody Wants To Be A Cat from The Arisrtocats.

i don't know, does it fit the following description?
a big dictionary wrote:–noun 5. Also called musical comedy. a play or motion picture in which the story line is interspersed with or developed by songs, dances, and the like.

Then yes, I suppose it counts.

Just thought some movies & tv shows might be excluded if they were never staged as a play. ie. Spinal Tap or Team America:World Police instead of Oklahoma or JC Superstar.

Hmmm, a very interesting prospect. I'm torn between my two favorite musicals. Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and
Dancer in the Dark.

If you consider Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind to be documentaries, which is what they pretend to be - then they do not fit the definition:
–noun 5. Also called musical comedy. a play or motion picture in which the story line is interspersed with or developed by songs, dances, and the like.
..but they are not. So they do.
I'd like to do a song from
Bob Roberts.

JC Superstar = My fave. Although it started as a concept album and ended up as a play/movie, I'd say it counts. Bring on the hippy-dippy Jebus love!

If we do JC Superstar I've got dibs on King Herod's Song.

Man, I hate musicals. But I can think of a few songs from musicals that would be fun to cover. Everything's Alright (from Godspell? Jesus Christ Superstore?) comes to mind. And there's a couple from West Side Story that'd be fun. I'll give it some thought.

Why do I feel a Tyrrell Corporation song coming on?
OK so now I think about it, I want to do 'Somewhere' from WSS as the gay song it clearly is. then again pretty much every song from that musical could be homo-ized with little effort. Unsurprisingly.
I've played Big Spender on the ukulele before, as well. So i dib both of 'em!

Dancer in the Dark could be the single most depressing film (fiction) I've seen. Beautiful movie, although I do like to limit my uncontrolable waterworks to 5 minutes per sitting.
I'm contemplating the Buffy musical/episode...

I was gonna cover Everything's Alright from JCS (the mrs wants to do that one so maybe you could collab with her instead)
No one is restricted to only one entry so cover more than one if yous like, i'm thinking of a end of july deadline.

Hmm, not big on musicals, but if you two want to do it I can join in. Never seen WSS so somebody will have to introduce me

And I'd like to do Pilate's Dream - I'd be willing to play all the Pilate Parts.
