Some of you may have heard of this already - it's basically Marathon Songs with twice as long to do it

i.e. write 14 songs in the month of February.
I'm doing it. Denyer's doing it. (not so far a huge inticement, I grant you!) Some of you may be among the other 80 odd people doing it. If not you have until the end of the week to register for this fun little challenge.
http://www.fawm.org for more details.
I have set up a little mini-site to keep track of my progress.
http://www.geocities.com/johnny_cashpoint/sol.html
As of right now, there's no songs on it, but the concept I am working on is explained, there's some pretty pictures and some fun clickin' 'tween the pages action for those of you who might be interested. I will be adding the first two songs tomorrow ...
the songs will be not be hosted on geocities, so there's no concern about downloading. Also if I can find somewhere without annoying left-hand ad bar I will transfer the mini-site there.
I do hope you can drop by every now and again, and listen to the fruits of my labour ...

All the best with this. Signs of Life is an excellent title for an album. Can't wait for the first... Though I guess I'll have to.

Thanks, Kam. I put up the first two songs on the website just for you ...

Excellent, Jim. Can't wait to hear some of your stuff.
You've got to play catch up - I've just posted song number 3 on my mini site - 'Low Hanging Cables', and it's possibly my own personal favourite johnny ca$hpoint song for a long while (which means no-one else will like it, of course

)

I haven't seen anyone trampled by Rhino in a long time.
Good track. My favorite of the three so far, though not the most 'commercial' which would, to date, be 'Bins'.
Most excellent. I'm in awe.

or the opening track from a crappy mid-80's attempt at a comeback album by a mostly washed-up 70's band

You've heard the songs then?

11 Degrees Centigrade (track 4) is another goody.
Having live in Finchley for several years I know the Northern line only too well (been there done that) so lines like:
The poison oozes slowly out across the yellow line - newsies for the newsprint imprinted on your minds
you're only here to work your passage to surburban rest - Surrounded by a plethora of clones in Monday best
and
The Tannoy say that there's delays so what's a dunce to do? Blame it on the immigrants and turn the paper blue. strike a chord (ho ho) with me.
What you need is a band... Then don't we all.
Keep up the good work!

Thanks!
I've almost finished song 5 'Bunting' (hopefully put it up tonight) and it's gonna have some full on £1.39 recorder action in it. So two real instruments rather than one

You're keeping the pace, Johnny. I have two more written but only hope to record them tonight...if I'm lucky. Loving the feed back on "Kick in the pants". It's interesting that the reviews over there are very song orientated, and not nearly as production conscious, which is refreshing.

I agree, Roymond (and loved your 'KitP' - good stuff) - I am amazed at the different style of comments - they are (so far for me) very useful ... although someone did accuse me of being ironic which I haven't had for a while here

EDIT:Track 5 'Bunting' (aka 'Tramp in a Transparent Hat') is up now.

Ok since I have taken using this thread for shameless self-promotion, I am half way through my AWIF - side one of the concept album is complete. You can hear it so far
HERE
Comparisons so far to Eno, Pere Ubu, Magnetic Fields, Ween and children's songs (natch).
But why do that when you check out Roymond's fabulous work so far and Franki.. *ahem*
Mellified Man's impressive beginnings over at

In the most fanastic bit of spiteful irony so far, Denyer hasn't recorded anything (as far as I can tell). As long as he keeps this up he will a) have told us all for mocking his speedy recording delivery and b)gone the longest time in his career without offending a single minority/individual songfighter

Gooooooooo Denyer!

I was Nevada-ing Nevada.
I am probably recording something tomorrow.
