2 icons of my youth have left the building
Mr Percival - the pelican from the 1976 movie "Storm Boy" passed away quietly in Adelaide Zoo.
Yes - that's right - 1976 movie.
This freaking pelican was 33-freaking-years-old!!!! How long do pelicans live!?!?!?

Also left us is the great Mike Leyland. Mike and his brother Mal were "The Leyland Brothers". They "travelled all over the countryside" - and showed many Australians the Australian outback for the first time. They were the blueprint for Steve Irwin and his shenanigans many years later (but nowhere near as wanky as Steve). They used to live near me when I was a little kiddie. I loved their TV shows - and I could walk past their house and see their bright orange van parked in the driveway. They are probably a very large part of the reason I do what I do for a living nowdays - traveling all over the countryside looking at trees and animals and stuff....
