Going to see Billy Squier tonight. Got fourth row seats advanced sales through his fan site.

QOTD: What's your "guilty pleasure" music - music you love that you know others may be judgemental of, but you just don't care?

Plus, "Disco Inferno" is nothing less than terrific.

I own albums by both John Tesh and Yanni. I win ALL the "guilty pleasure" contests as a result.

Yes. Yes you do. I thought my ABBA Gold and Cock Robin albums might take it, but you are the champeen. :)

Even my copy of Manilow's Even Now album on vinyl can't compete with Tesh and Yanni.

In related news, I found a $2 turntable at a yard sale, and it works great. Been listening to the few LPs I've hung on to over the years. I have some 45s too, but I don't have one of those little yellow fallout-shelter-symbol thingies for the center hole.

Nothin' wrong with that, dude.

Also, I get made fun of a lot for my love of Billy Joel. But I probably wouldn't be writing songs if not for the Piano Man. Just sayin'.

KC and the Sunshine band, Wild Cherry, War, Earth Wind and Fire, Tower of Power.

...and anyone that doesn't think that the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack isn't good, probably just does not like it. ~BLT for some sort of politician position

Made fun of? Who are these people?

Maybe I have a skewed perspective...I grew up on Long Island. I believe we had laws requiring you to like Billy Joel. In fact, when I was born, the hospital issued me a copy Billy Joel's "The Stranger" (on LP, of course) before my parents were allowed to bring me home...

Present!

(Actually, I don't recall if I have ever made fun of J-E for liking Billy Joel - but I will make a note to do it in future)

Yeah, outside of New York, Mr. Joel is generally seen as sappy, immature, and pretty much passé. And most of his really big hits are, by and large, my least favorite of his songs ("Uptown Girl" makes me cringe, and "Still Rock'n'Roll to Me" has lost a lot of its immediacy, just to name a couple), but a lot of those minor hits and deep album cuts reveal a craftsman who really knew how to write a song!

Still, say it in public outside of Long Island, and you get a wedgie. My wife abhors the guy, and last time I had the opportunity to go see him in concert, the only person I could find to go with was my sister-in-law. (Not that she's not cool - I mean obviously she's cool, she loves Billy Joel...)

"Scenes From an Italian Restaurant" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

I do not believe I have ever made fun of people for liking Billy Joel, although I can't stand his music, myself. Especially not "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant," mostly because when I lived in NYC it seemed like everywhere I went I'd always hear that song playing. It definitely played EVERY SINGLE TIME I went to the laundromat, anyway.

BLT - have you got one of those smiley things that depicts a wedgie?

Between all the hard rock, metal and j-rock on my jukebox, there is also a lot of Kelly Clarkson.

I've got a song for that one (lyrics and melody courtesy of Johnny Cashpoint).
