So, what did I miss?

Thought I'd go ahead and start a new thread, as my reply in the condenser thread was getting long. Good to be back.

I'm about halfway through broadcast school, and we're finally getting into spot production, vocal tracking, pre-recording news packages, etc. That means I can finally go from crushing the rest of the class to savagely raping them. I just need to get my gear closet back in order. It's been a while since I did my own recording.

I bought a new laptop yesterday, and already have the following software:

Cubase 5
Izotope Ozone 4, Alloy, Spectron, Vinyl, and iDrum
Native Instruments Guitar Rig 3

I'll probably grab an M-Audio Fast Track Pro, one or both of my AT 2020's, maybe my Dragonfly. I'll have my Nord, my Martin, and my Strat.

My question is basically, what new plugins, etc. have been released in the last 1-2 years since I did home production? I completely missed cubase 4, so surely I've missed some other cool stuff. I'm particularly interested in VST instruments, and input on mics or other gear that would help with recording a male baritone voice for broadcast. We'll be moving onto video production in a few weeks, so gear that could transfer to audio production for video is a plus.

Feel free to ask questions about the Air Force, boot camp, the broadcast school, etc. Can't wait to get back in the game.

What a great gig you have in the Air Force there, Sober. I know shit about plug-ins, but just wanted to pipe in to encourage you to clobber us with your fine music. :)

Pre- Abu Ghraib that may have been read as a metaphor. Now we can only assume that that is just a general part of the US military curriculum.

HA!

It's actually very interesting learning the rules of military public affairs - what we can and can't release, who is authorized to speak to the press, and so on.
