A thousand times I said I loved you,
You said you loved me too.
A thousand tender kisses
That never seemed untrue
Did all those men who held your hand
keep you satisfied?
Were you tryin' to hurt me,
Or were you just passin' time?
Now a beer is worth a thousand words
That I'll never hear you say
Ten beers ago I was feelin' bad
But now I feel okay
I'll santer off when I've had enough
Or they say I have to leave.
A thousand beers will drown the words
That I'll never have to speak.
"Yes darlin', I sort of remember the day you said goodbye. You told me you had found another bunch of men to put pampers on you and treat you right. I cried like a little girlie and went runnin' down the middle of the street screamin' my fool head off, and evetually stopped at the sight of the flashing red white and blue neon in the window of Earl's Tavern. And as I lay my head against the cold wet steel of the public trough in the men's room, I dream that it is your shoulder I rest upon, and that those are your tears fallin' down upon my face. A thousand tears of joy."
