This might seem like a dumb question, but ... "audible counting"? What does that encompass?

On a more awesome note, NUR EIN!!! I'm crazy stoked.

Counting on your fingers on the drum cam doesn't count.

I assume it means a human voice (or a sound manufactured to resemble a human voice) making sounds to indicate consecutive numbers, in one language or another.

Take, for example, the overture to Philip Glass' Einstein On the Beach. Or Kraftwerk's "Numbers." Or how about The Mountain Goats' "Have to Explode"?

Seems like a perfectly straightforward challenge to me. *shrug*

Yeah, I assumed it was straightforward, but I like to be sure of these things. I'm a little obsessive that way.

ps - song written. NUR EIN!!!

What about "One" by U2?

...or a better example

I'm really looking forward to following this. It's my first chance to follow a Nur Ein tournament as it's going on.

So the counting needs to be in the song right? Can't be a count in like I Saw Her Standing There\Taxman?

You can do that, if you proceed to sing a song as f-ing good as either of those.

If, on the other hand you do a simple count in and proceed to poop on your shoes and call it music, expect low scores. Here's where you have an opportunity for reflection and improvement of your level of self-awareness.

Counting? Music is maths, after all.

Apologies for dumb-question-itis - this is just a "warm-up" round, right? No-one gets booted from round zero? Not that I would advocate A-game-saving but just wanted to clarify, as time-restraints for me this week are a beee-yotch and I am wary of dropping my crap on anyone's shoes.

This round determines who the 25 participants will be in the rest of Nur Ein. If more than 25 people enter this round, then only the top 25 finishers proceed to Round One. If 25 or fewer people enter this round, then everyone gets to proceed to Round One.

Do you guys prefer an artist writing in a varied manner for the sake of each song as an individual entity - or similarly-themed entries for the sake of a cohesive album? I have two songs written for this one, and the song I think is better by itself just doesn't have that Therman sound.

Song written - at least in my head and on paper. Now it just needs arranging. And recording. And mixing. You know, the fun stuff. :-)

Anyway, inspiration from real life catastrophes and dysfunctional family dynamics FTW.

Lyrics go to Ye Olde Lyric Archive, right ?

Just write a good song and stop worrying about what the judges think. You could have the best use of audible counting EVER, but if your song sucks it will be at the bottom of my list. No-one cares if you turn your Nur Ein experience into a concept album--how could we possibly factor that into our judging? We judge one song each week--no-one would even notice such a thing unless you pointed it out on a message board. (ahem) And J$, you should definitely enter this week because even your shoe-pooping is better than most Round Zero entries.

I'm playing the role of the grumpy judge this year.

Yeah. I'm with you Frankie. I'd be grumpy too having to judge all the rest of these losers. Just go straight for the quality. You know where to find it.

BTW - I really liked that song you did, I don't remember what it was called. I think it sounded a bit like David Bowie.

By the way, the songs are due on Sunday at 11:59PM, not Monday at 11:59AM, right?

...can someone please convince me they are due at 10:00AM Sunday so I get mine in on time? :?

Thanks, CR, it's very kind of you to say, but you haven't heard any of my songs yet :)
