Down For A While

Gooey Caramel Centaur

You're minding your own business, when, out of the blue, the lights go out on you. The files on your computer that you haven't saved are going to be erased. The settings on the router that you always forget are going to have to be reset!

The world's in a frenzy; it feels like the end! See if we can't put this armageddon to the mend. We're all out of hope. We can't even force a smile, because the power's gone down for a while.

How are we going to cook the dinner? -- we need power for that. How will we comment on our facebook? -- we need power for that. How will we shred on the electric (we need power for that) or use our toasted sandwich maker? -- we need power for that.

You're working on the eighth floor, when disaster appears: now when you leave, you're going to have to use the stairs. You're going to miss Survivor on the TV, which you, like, really really wanted to see.

The world's in a frenzy; it feels like the end! See if we can't put this armageddon to the mend. We're all out of hope. We can't even force a smile, because the power's gone down. The world is in darkness, there's nothing much to do, and where did we put the candles? I know I don't have a clue. We're all out of hope. We can't even force a smile, because the power's gone down for a while.

Oh, my baby's gone
for feels like so long.
I've been down, down for a while.

She said that she
would come, come back to me.
But I'm down, down for a while.

Oh, though we're apart
she is still in my heart.
But I'm down, down for a while.

It must be hard as balls to be married
To a military man
One day you're living in Iraq
The next you're moving to Japan

You haven't spent more than 60 days
In any given place
Your passport's stamped so many times
The ink obscures your haggard face

Sometimes you get a lucky draw
Like that quaint chateau in Nice
The ziggurats in Machu Picchu
The Parthenon in ancient Greece

The new assignment's up in Yakutsk
A North Siberian town
For the next two weeks, or month, two at the most
It looks like you'll be wearing down.

Down For A While

By Steve Durand

I couldn't make it
In New York City
I'm getting severance pay

I got the blues
In that big apple
So I headed down Florida way

It wasn't kind
To leave you behind
I'm such a thoughtless lout

But come down for a while
And we'll live in style
At least 'till the money runs out

I wasn't able
To do it my way
I couldn't take the blows

So spread the news
I took the East Coast Highway
Wearing my vagabond clothes

But I'll tell you this
It's you that I miss
Without a shadow of a doubt

So come down for a while
And we'll live in style
At least 'till the money runs out

Without the city noise
I can finally get some sleep
In a place where I can avoid
Living on the cheap

On my lawn
There is a pink flamingo
To spread some tropical cheer

And if you think
"where did my diamond ring go?"
You'll find it waiting down here

I must concede
It's you that I need
That's what it's all about

So come down for a while
And we'll live in style
At least 'till the money runs out
