Making sure I knew for sure what an acrostic was, I went to wikipedia as usual. Not only did it make me re-look at CR's post above with joy, but I found this:
"In October 2009, a letter from the office of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Governor of California to the State Assembly was found to contain an acrostic. In this case, the initial letters of each line in the letter spelled the words "Fuck you"."

Did the same thing here. Back to school for this one. I do have a small question. What does the extended part mean? If I got the boot from the last round then nevermind.

Okay, what a great challenge. Even if I'm not in, I cannot wait to hear what comes out of this.

Make the whole song an acrostic not just one part.

The whole song? Interesting. So basically spell a word the length of the page and start each line with that letter. But the chorus will have to be repeated.
Even if I don't make it to the next round, I'm going to get started. My week just got real busy, so if I don't start now, I'll be screwed.
....and not in the happy ending kind of way.

ACROSTIC is definitely a word I will look to play in a Scrabble game if I get stuck with both C's, to go with CECA, CROC, CHIC, ACETONIC, CONCERTI/NECROTIC or of course, CACA...

I do enjoy Scrabble references.

Same here. Already have, in fact, just because it's such a fun challenge.
EDIT: Actually, I just finished the lyrics. Now maybe I can get some work done today. It is nice to finally feel inspired -- which guarantees I didn't make it to round five. Hah!

A first in my SF history. I just wrote the lyrics without so much as a melody nor music written. Weird. I feel a little inside out. Does my spleen make me look fat?

I hereby predict that, as the first to finish their lyrics, both BLT and myself will not make it to round five.
Or perhaps that we are in FIRST AND SECOND PLACE for round five. Mwahaha.

*high five* But somehow, life will go on.
I think I'll hold off on the drums and guitars until I know. That's the part that sends me into la la land and makes me zone out on reality.

So now would be a good time to get some actual work done that sort of pays the bills.

I'm, uh, kind of shocked I'm still in this. But now I'm super-psyched, because I just recorded a scratch track of the lyrics I wrote earlier, and I really like what I have going on, and it actually integrates the challenge well instead of half-assed. BLT, glad to see you're still in it, can't wait to hear what you wrote today.
and now I shut up and start tracking drums

So...like you recorded your vocals without music? That's like giving a speech naked for me.....on a cold day. But then again, you have a very pleasant voice.

Sorry to be the annoying question asking guy, but I'm a little confused by the challenge and the clarification. I read "include an extended acrostic" as allowing for the acrostic to be a large part of the song but not necessarily the whole thing. Is that wrong? We need to make an acrostic using every single line of lyrics in the whole song?
So for example, it would be unacceptable to have the verses be separate acrostics, or combine to form one acrostic, but then not include the choruses in the acrostic stuff at all? I do apologize for asking these kind of quibbling questions, but it seemed like an important enough distinction to ask about.

No, I just pounded out a random set of chords and tried to find the rhythm of it. Ultimately I threw it out, and took a different approach, which I'll probably also throw out. I do that a lot, trying to find something that feels good to perform in a simple way -- I figure if it feels good to perform, it probably feels good to listen to. I can't always get to that point, though. In fact, I rarely do. But I try for it anyway.
and thank you for the complement!

I'm going to record the music on this one first. I know what the song is about, but I'll going to attempt some decent production this time.

I think "I'm going to record the music on this one first. I know what the song is about, but I'll going to attempt some decent production this time" should be your acrostic. It's going to be a long song, so get cracking.

We haven't discussed it, but I don't see how "an extended acrostic" means the same thing as "make the whole song an acrostic not just one part." I'm not sure what made Niveous draw that conclusion. So you're certainly safe with me if you just do it for the verses or whatever.
