What the Bleep Do We Know?

I'm gonna give it a C. The material is good, but it was done in a disgustingly cheesy way, and none of it was new to me. They also didn't give the credentials (most of them PhD, MD, etc.) of the interviewees until the end, which I thought was a huge mistake.

They tried to use quantum mechanics to explain metaphysical stuff, but they acted like they knew what they were talking about, which is of course impossible. Also, the movie was so full of sparkles it's like the post-production crew was infiltrated by pixie terrorists.

It was rooted so much in the self-help $19.95 at 2 am genre, it deserved a D, but the pretty much accurate science and the credentials of the interviewees brought it up to a C. But it really annoyed me how they thought they were blowing my mind when they really weren't bringing anything new to the table.

All in all, you'd do much better to spend your time on:

For sciency stuff:

Some Stephen Hawking shit
What is Quantum Mechanics?

For metaphysical stuff:

God's Debris, by Scott Adams
The last chapter of The Dilbert Future
Barry Windsor-Smith's Opus books

For religious-type stuff:

Zen Flesh, Zen Bones
Chuang Tzu
You can also get the above in comic book form

The big advantage the Scott Adams and BWS books have over the movie is the movie is a bunch of degrees spouting off theories like they're facts, but Scott Adams claims to have basically altered his future (became a famous cartoonist) through the power of thought, and BWS describes all this weird crap that happened to him when all he wanted to do was be a comic artist.

apparently. while "What the BLEEP Do We Know" isn't mainstream, it has been in the press and is playing in larger cities. it'll have a pretty small run and probably won't hit much of middle america. "Shaun of the Dead", however, is in 600 theaters now and likely to expand because it's really really goo. if you don't pay attention to the movie scene, i can understand if you don't know about these movies until they come around you-- and probably not even then if you don't care about movies much.

BLEEP disappointed the living daylights out of me. The "story" part was so poorly done that I couldn't get into it for the life of me. What a major bummer.

Here's how I do:

1. Go to the arty theater in town.
2. Look at the movie posters.
3. Realize that nothing is starting for an hour and a half.
4. Go to TJ Maxx (optional).
