Songfolk-
You may know me as
Abominominous, or a third of
the Hell Yeahs, or even as half of
Spy Vs. Pie, but I'm also Philip Lee Redmon,
internet cartoonist.
A bunch of us comic folk who had been slacking hard in recent months started a friendly 20 dollar per person wager to see who could keep the longest M thru F schedule. One thing led to another, and now
PvP's own Scott Kurtz is among the over 30 competitors.
So, uh, come check out the
Daily Grind Iron Man Challenge. There's a lot of somics to read. Um....
Go Song Fight!
(p.s. Glenn, it's totally in the mail.)
I totally forgot to mention, fellow Spy
Brian F is also competing!

Ok...
I have waited a day to say anything...
I can't believe no one has posted to this thread.
You guys are really missing out if you don't check out this Daily Grind thing. The competition is up to 56 artists now with $1120 bucks on the line. There are some "professionals" as Phil mentioned, and a bunch of regular guys (and women too), drawing a sh*t load of stuff, updated M-F, that's some good (and not so good) reading!
Songfight's own Phil. Redmon. and Brian F are among the artists and I'm sure they wouldn't mind some support from this community! Go
here and check it out!
Please...

Hey, I think this is awesome and I wish you luck! It's going to be much more difficult for the hard-core artists to keep up with the folks who pretty much just toss-off stuff, especially since they've got more on the line. I know PVP is doing this, and it's gonna be tough for him, especially since he makes a living off his site.
Good luck!

I would like it known that I love Ray and Ian, and have loved them for a good while now, in a totally platonic way I hasten to add.
Now I know they're in print I shall be thundering over to the site to purchase a mag (once I have collected a few more cans).
Tartpops in print are long overdue, so kudos for finally getting there...
On the basis that full colour would be reet neece, have you thought of having a paypal linked downloadable pdf version?

I did a comic just for Phil a while back, thought this would be a good time to repost it:

Sober, that's hilarious, we just re-visited
that thread today! How come you don't come round no more?
Oh yeah, 'cause I didn't do a comic for months.
Well,
Thanks for reading my new stuff, everybody. It's nice to get back behind the pen. Now I need to chop off a slab of hot rock for you.
You guys are the greatest internet a guy could ever port.

You should have another side fight... and the prize can be a guest spot in one of your strips... just a thought, I'd enter that fight.
I'd even enter on time....

So, I hear you guys are a bunch of pussies? I was just reading PvP, and Zurtz was saying how people over there were whining about how hard it was to do a comic every day. And didn't it start out as a 7-days-a-week thing, or am I going crazy? Cause now it's a M-F thing.

It's always been a M-F thing and Kurtz is an asshole. He's quite the complainer himself. There were 56 competitors and now there are 53, not all of them are "pussies", especially Phil. Have you even checked it out, or do you just base your opinions on what big man Kurtz says?

Just giving you guys some heathy ribbin'. I have checked it out, but there's only links to the websites, not the comics, and with half the sites I can't find the comic. It's like some stupid blog or something. And I blow enough of my time on the SF board, so I wasn't about to get sucked into that one.
Why is there such a lashing against anyone who's made it big? Kurtz seems like an alright guy to me, and hell, he's got a comic deal with a major publisher, and he continues to give it away for free. If I was a cartoonist, I'd be kissing his ass the same way we all kiss the Front's ass here, trying to get tips and links from his site and stuff. But who knows? Maybe when Front gets a record deal, we'll all be like "fucking asshole sellout."

Kurtz and DJ Coffman signed up for that competition knowing full well that it was for amature comic artists who needed a kick in the ass to do a daily comic. They both came in with high and mighty attitudes and they, DJ more than Kurtz, still love to rub it in everyone's faces that they have been doing this for
years and they are gonna win, blah blah blah. By their very nature, they shouldn't be in the competition. I think it pisses them off that more people aren't kissing their professional asses. I don't consider Kurtz a sell out, I just think he's an asshole. Sure those two brought traffic to the grind, but most of that traffic is just there for them.
The same thing happens when MC Frontalot enters a fight. There is a lot of traffic, but it never really pays off for anyone else but Frontalot, does it?
I know I have blasphemed against MC Frontalot, but you brought him up.
Have a nice day
