the cure cover fight!

Post by the idiot king »

so a small group of us realized that we'd all be game for a cure cover fight. details are more or less nonexistant, but hopefully we can hammer them out collectively.

roughly:

-due date is september 24.
-i'm thinking no repeats in terms of songs for voting, and first come, first serve for requests.
-no idea for a title..."cover me cover me cover me"?
-jack will graciously be hosting. you can send him the actual mp3 file as an email attachment to curefight@jackshite.com.

and that's basically it. any other suggestions would be great, and hosting is sort of up in the air until we see the demand for this fight.

This sounds like a brilliant idea. I may do Killing an Arab.

currently we've got three "yes"s, and one request for a collab. i'd say we need at least five or six to be a proper "fight". if we get a couple more people in, then maybe we can hammer out the details?

I'm a flaky SOB, but I'd like to make 10:15 Saturday Night (or whatever that title really is) my own, so, please consider me "in" also.

I'm interested, too. I'm still thinking about what song I'd like to do, though.

i've got a hectic month at work, and i'm going on vacation next week, so i am more than up for pushing the deadline back to late sept/early oct if that will interest a larger crowd. the october timing could be a good time for such a cover fight to emerge, as well. nothing says halloween for grown ups like goth music and girls in revealing costumes.

I say post an arbitrary deadline whenever you think appropriate. You could manage the songs people cover, I guess, or just let people cover whatever they want. You might end up with 7 "Just Like Heaven"s but you might get some interesting stuff too, with low overhead. :-)

I guarantee you won't get a "Just Like Heaven" from me.

As of now the frontrunners are "A Forest", "Another Journey By Train" or "The Figurehead."

ha...looks like we have enough interest. let's set a tentative date of completion for fri, sept 24th. if you can let me know by the 17th if you're definitely in and what song you're doing, i'll be able to assess whether i can host it myself. i should be able to if we have >10 entrants.

I had a crack at this last night. It wasn't pretty.

Tonight I am having a go at "Primary"

....the country & western version. As Robert always imagined it.

Probably.

If it comes down to it, I've got about a gig available that i'm not really using for anything.

Ah, hell, I've never been a big Cure fan but this sounds like fun and that deadline's no problem.

i love primary. i love the idea of caravan ray doing an aussified country version of it even more. :)

oh i'm definitely in for just like heaven at the very least. I might also try "in between days" if nobody else does.

actually, i really like "the perfect girl" too. maybe someone wants to collaborate on that avec moi?
